Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Just watched Ink (2009). I don't remember how I heard about it, but I'm so glad it ended up in my Netflix queue, it was fantastic. If you're looking for something lesser known and quite original I strongly recommend it.

ya my fav movies are coen bros and Kubrick films, but I also am deeply in love with the Bourne movies and consider dumb and dumber a masterpiece.

also revots,
that's a great summation.

I loved this film.
Try having a few beers, popping some corn and not taking it so seriously.
It's a light-hearted horror movie, you don't need to 'feel it', just go with it.

I feel like there is a class of those of us who find the Bourne movies cinematic perfection. I think they are masterpieces, the best action movies ever, head and shoulders above the rest. And I cannot understand how anyone can see any differently.

Loved the books too, read them in high school.

Saw The Skeleton Twins today. It's nice to see a Hollywood film about adult siblings... something we hardly ever see. I think this film won the screenplay prize at Sundance.

Film has been getting good reviews but it was just ok for me. Wiig and Hader were fine but there was no real emotional payoff to the movie for me. Ending seemed especially contrived. When comparing it to You Can Count on Me, another film about an adult brother and sister, there is just no comparison, YCCOM is a far better film.

Movie had 2 excellent scenes including a great lip-sych scene which you can see part of in the trailer. But overall fell flat for me, I'd say 5/10.

It wasn't bad but...

Spoiler:
It was a straight rip-off of Matchstick Men. Can't believe how blatant they were about it.

I rewatched Whit Stillman's Metropolitan on TCM last night. Very unique movie! He has a new series on Amazon Prime btw. It seems like more of the same thing he does. He's carved out quite a precious little niche for himself.

Watched that also... good stuff.

Also... Congo released on blu ray. I have a soft spot for this movie... ugly gorillia. Fully enjoyed.

Stillman is like a fussier preppie Wes Anderson, but without the visual style.

Filth

Surprised by the tone that the movie ultimately took, starting off with some crass-humor to finally give away to a darker side... Loved this movie!!! The subtitles were obviously the first thing I put on!!! Highly recommend this one, especially for all the Trainspotting fans.

8.8/10

Men, Women & Children is absolute garbage. Reitman is one film away from becoming the next M Night Shymalan. The film follows way too many underdeveloped characters. Reitman is beating us over the head with a cautionary tale about the internet. The internet is bad and is killing every friendship and relationship we have. He's certainly on to something here but the execution here is so ****ing first year film student. There is some voiceover that is almost as bad as the voiceover from Maleficent. Poor voiceover telegraphs, "We couldn't get our message across any stronger so we're going to throw this in during post." There's an afterschool special that plays out in the final act that is just ****ing painful to watch. This film is **** and if you like it, you're ****.

Agreed on Filth. Was excellent!

the equalizer.
directed by antoine fuqua
starring denzel.

ok so denzel is one of my fav actors, training day is one of my fav films and i was super excited about this film.

ugh.

it was basically a terrible version of man on fire.
it was fun watching denzel be a bad ass obv, but the movie was ****ing dumb as ****.

they basically combined dexter with bourne and then stole the plot from man on fire, but the result was atrocious.

Mommy - Xavier Dolan's latest delivers one hell of a cinematic experience. The film follows three wounded souls that repair each other through an odd yet effective setup. The three lead performances are amazing. I cared so much for these characters through the entire film. They're so well developed. When they went through painful experiences I felt their pain. When they felt happiness, I felt happy.

The 1:1 frame ratio pulls in the audience for an intimate experience and is arguably one of the finest shot films of the year. There is one shot/sequence in particular that rocked my world so hard I wept. This is such a powerful film that must be seen theatrically. Place this on your radar loungers, this will be one to talk about at the end of the year.

Add me to the list : I really enjoyed it as well, and am not one for your typical Hollywood-light-hearted-comedies.

I can see the criticism of TSLoWMitty, but I liked it too. It helped that my daughter, who had a thing for Iceland at the time (based on a weird anime called Hitalia), loved it so much.

It's a good movie to watch with the family. My wife and 8yr old son loved it.

I couldn't sleep last night and rewatched Now, Voyager on the TCM. Bette Davis is a spinster with a tyrannic mother pushing her around who somehow manages to change her life, very powerful tho a little emo. Bette Davis is my favorite film actress. Claude Rains is her shrink and Paul Henreid plays her lover.
