i don't think anyone is arguing that TR wouldn't have been better had QT directed it, just that its still ridic good even with scott having helmed it.

Jackie Brown is so underrated. I can't make a list but it's definitely on the top shelf.

Yeah this was great, and I'm a science hater from way back. Also loved The Battered Bastards of Baseball.

I kinda think Jackie Brown is a little overrated tbh.

True Romance is great lots of amazing cameos and smart dialogue
Maybe i was a bit harsh on Christopher Walken in the favourite Actors Thread, the scene with dennis hopper is amazing but i think he is better as a suporting actor or cameo rather than a lead

Yeah I recognize Days is a better movie, but I thought Weeks was more fun and exciting, which is what I look for in a zombie type movie.

Saving Mr banks was ... nice.

Only just got round to 25th Hour, the Ed Norton film. I guess I'm missing something, cos it just plodded along, to what I thought would be a big twist type ending, and nothing really happened.. It was pretty disappointing.

Also recently re watched Owning Mahowny, PSH perfection. He's so convincing you can actually feel it.

I loved Birdcage when it first came out, but man, I tried watching it again and it was tough to sit through. Too many oh look at these funny stereotypes of gay men. Har har.

Short Term 12

It is streaming on Netflix so I just watched it for the second time. Just as I said after I watched it the first time a year ago, it is one of my favorite movies ever. I don't know how macho people here try to be but if this movie does not make you feel you probably are not human. Easily should have been nominated for best picture last year, & Brie Larson for best actress.

Boyhood - I mentioned it wasn't hugely my type of movie, even so I thought it was fantastic. I did feel a bit long to me but it never dragged.

The acting was great, as was seeing the cast grow older. I feel a lot of directors would have smugly shoved that aspect of it down our throats if they'd done a similar project (akin to the 3D in Avatar), however here I felt it was done quite subtly and was only used as a part of story.

I can't tell if I'm looking forward to, or dreading, the mass circlejerk that will occur when all the Linklater fans here see it.

I was underwhelmed by this movie too. It was OK, but I was expecting something very good.

Agree. Best film of last year.

25th hour was good the first time around. The second time sucked.

I was more engrossed with guessing what was going to happen than I was with the characters themselves.

After the second viewing I realized everyone was caricatures. Dad, friends, bad guys, girl friend, cops.

I still think it's worth a view

i wanna rewatch 25th hour just for Brian Cox's ending monologue

28 Days Later is on my top 20 list of favorite movies ever. One of the few horrors that still creep me out to this day. Weeks was good but wasn't quite as "raw" as Days if you know what I mean.

Yeah, it was definitely annoying at times and definitely didn't live up to the hype from the person that recommended it to me, but overall I still thought it was a solid comedy.

Odd Thomas (2013)
Good list overall. Just singling this out because it seemed like the kind of thing on Netflix I'd watch for 5 minutes and give up on, but it was good. I agree with B+.

28 Days Later is GOAT. Even if you feel Weeks was better, Days was the gamechanger. It reminded us zombie(ish) movies could be terrifying. At the time we had those satirical looks at zombie horror from Snyder (DotD) and Anderson (Resident Evil). While those had moments of suspense, they weren't scary.

The church scene when the main character says "Hello" and the infected turn around and look at him from the pews, then you hear them hauling ass up the stairs to him....... That scene still gives me chills. And I'm hard as nails when it comes to horror.
08-01-2014 , 03:32 PM
I also like 28 Weeks Later more than 28 Days Later. Days has massive 3rd act problems. And Weeks has Rose Byrne.

A couple nights ago I screened a double bill of ****ty movies at my house with some friends: The Good Son and The People Under the Stairs (both available on N-Flix stream).

After finishing TGS, it occurred to me that there hadn’t been a second of (intended) comedy in the entire movie. It’s the only movie I’ve ever seen that didn’t have one scene or line of comedy, some light moment. I racked my brain, but I couldn’t think of any examples.

Omitting stuff like Gummo, Salò, can anyone else think of a movie that didn’t have at least some comedy? And use a broad definition, like anything intended to make you smile.
