I thought it was really hilarious and captivating -- the way they made this spring break, hedonistic adventure a "spiritual journey" for these girls.
The abundance of montage's really made this movie special. If you look at this movie's bare bones: Plot Development, Actors, Script... you really don't have much. You basically have a boring story about Spring Break, with some not so talented actors (save for James Franco) and a pretty much non-existent script. But the way this movie is edited, the constant misrepresentation of plot position from the voice-overs/flashbacks(forwards) is what really makes this a great movie.
Nothing against Selena Gomez or Vanessa Hudgens or the other two girls in this movie. I'm sure they're ok actors but this movie was not driven by their acting abilities. They were controversial casting choices and they look good in bikinis, kudos to the casting director/ It was the hyper-realism of every aspect of this movie that made it what it was. James Franco was amazing when he was needed (Gun blowjob scene anyone?) but as I said before it was the production of this movie that made it a truly great one.
