Re: bathroom breaks... Is Vegas unique in having bars at the theaters? If not, do you lunatics watch movies without drinking? For the second viewing we brought flasks and did a shot of bourbon every time Jack had a drink.
Lol we drink at the Eclipse, where they serve you drinks and food, but not regularly. I’d be peeing even more!

I’ll let you know when we can go.

Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a collection of discrete short stories set in the Wild West. They're stylistically different; the opening Buster Scruggs one is Tarantino-esque with its comedy violence, while in contrast a later story about a woman on a wagon train is melancholic. Inevitably some tales are better than others. The Liam Neeson fronted one, about a travelling entertainer and his limbless companion, was dull and should have been excised. Overall it's an interesting, reasonably enjoyable experiment for the Coens. The cinematography through is great, there are some really stunning, well-crafted shots of the landscape.

London Film Festival is on right now. Seeing Roma tomorrow, next week seeing Kindergarten Teacher (Maggie Gyllenhal) and Burning (Korean thriller). Might have made a slight error in booking movies that will be widely released at some point (or, in the case of Roma, will be on Netflix in a few months), but I hadn't done any research beforehand and tickets were going fast during the priority booking phase (which I was unexpectedly able to benefit from) so just bought tickets to whatever sounded good.

Heh, just looked it up and discovered Buster Scruggs, Roma and Kindergarten Teacher are all either on Netflix or will be soon. Oops.

Well said John.

There wouldn't be any sad endings if we didn't wish for happy ones.

Fearless Vampire Killers... is friggen awesome!
European sensibility and outstanding set design... Roman Polanski's vampire is wonderful.

July22 is a big disappointment from Peter Greengrass. Watching the Norwegian massacre at a summer island camp is not in any way fun or necessary, and the legal maneuverings and personal stories of the killer's lawyer and his surviving victims are just not interesting.

I thought the same, it is a very stale and unengaging drama. Only managed an hour before switching it off.

First Man

I loved Whiplash and La La Land making this my most anticipated film of the year. Sadly, I admired it more than I loved it. The best word I can think of to describe it is sterile. It tries hard for emotion, but never lands.

During flight scenes it is truly amazing. It just doesn’t build the world around those scenes.

Thankfully it avoids the American flag waving.

Grade: B

Was thinking about going to the theater for First Man, sounds like I'll just wait for video and watch it on my phone or something

First Man

Holy ****!!! X-15s bouncing off the atmosphere.

Ghosts: Ghosts I can understand.

Juniper Hills: Karen's swing set.

We need to fail: Down here.

I'm just saying what everybody's thinking: Maybe you shouldn't.

If I had a choice: I'd take more fuel.

Press conference: at home around the kitchen table.

Sorry, the movie was too exciting for me to take notes. The best flick of 2018 -- I hope it can find an audience. Be sure to check it out.

Hmm, I thought it was supposed to be a fairly dry non-fictional account of Neil Armstrong's life and the lead up to the moon landing.

I wouldn't call it dry.

I didn't mean necessarily boring, just a mostly factual biopic. Without ghosts.

Straight Time is great... gritty 1970's low level crime drama with Dustin Hoffman and a nude Theresa Russell.

The movies packed with well known actors that are extremely young, including a very young kit jee wong, of Big Touble in Little China fame...

spent the last week up in puget sound eating out, fake camping in the motorhome, walking the fake beaches, riding bikes on the ocean trail from port townsend to port angeles.

even had a negro modelo beer at a mexican rest.

then did the drive up to the crater lookout at mount st. helens volcano.
