Uber and technology in general will slowly replace taxis and "The knowledge" test.

But it will take time, especially in England. The Limeys still have a Queen for god's sake, just for one example of their backward ways.

That's what happens when you get old. You are not as quick on the draw as you used to be. And you get shot and left for dead. Montana style.

Don't fret none, it happens to all of us. Eventually.

Quality of service. You're probably going to get there quicker. I don't know how difficult it is to navigate London as a noob with a satnav, but I'd bet it isn't easy. Plus, local knowledge. You're a man of the world, Dom. Haven't there been times when a driver's local knowledge was useful to you?

This is a good article about it, although TLDR:

Los Angeles is a maze of randomly drawn squiggly lines, dead-end streets, and wide desolate boulevards. GPS does okay as long as you are on the main streets, but falls apart quickly once you're off the beaten path.

I used to live up in the mountains, and I'd tell everyone to NOT use GPS to find me. The directions were super simple, just turn left up a 100 foot street, turn left, I'm on the left corner of the first street on the left side.

Of course, everyone used Gmaps to find me, so 90 minutes later: "I'm at a park, where am I?"

There were 4 parks near me. Did you fall into a river, run over children, fall off a cliff, or are you being attacked by dogs?

My wife and I walked over to the local independent movie theater last night and watched Love, Gilda, the new documentary on the life of Gilda Radner. Although I enjoyed it, it wasn't quite as good as I was expecting it to be, and the ending was quite abrupt (sort of like her life itself). However, if you are of a certain age, i.e., you can remember watching the initial 5-year run of SNL, then this is a must see.

I was a sophomore in college when SNL first started, and I remember my roommates, friends, and I being blown away by SNL. We had never seen anything like it on TV before. I also remember being devastated about 10 years later when I heard about Gilda being stricken with cancer.

Embeded below is a trailer of the documentary. As I said, it's not fantastic, but if you're 50+ and a fan of Gilda's, it's still a must see.

Bliss for some. Let's hear what Mr Cole has to say about it.

I just read some dreadful poetry. I wish I were blissfully ignorant of it.

Gilda was great.. a real talent. So was gene wilder.

I'm highly ignorant of poetry. I'm not putting a feather in my hat here, but poetry is on form of writing that I truly dislike.

It's like math. A mathematician can look at all of those symbols see wonderful abstractions and history baked into every symbol. Once again, this is a subject I'm woefully ignorant of.

It's like jazz. Every note is built on a knowledge that goes back millennia, tracing back to Bach and his well-tempered clavier. When I hear a note that's overdone, I know it's a "joke," but I don't get the joke. When I hear a run, I know it's a homage to someone, but I don't know who that homage is to.

I'm dreadfully ignorant of many higher social points of life. You chose to trade blissful ignorance for the joy of finding the joy of something those blissful ignoramuses like me will never have the ability to comprehend.

At least your feeling with be fleeting. That one poem can never kill your love of poetry. Hell, 1,000 duds can never kill your love for poetry, and that's pretty cool in my eyes. If I read that poem, I'd say "Boom, all the proof I need! I'm going to go read a comic now."

Sincerely;

Mr Ignorant.

Class Rank

Not gonna put my review in spoilers because I am going to do my best not to have any. Everyone should see this. It is largely irrelevant, but it is an amazingly innocent coming of age movie that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do. It is funny, sweet, and just enjoyable from start to finish with good performances all around. I couldn't recommend this movie enough, kind of reminds me of an Election/Rocket Science hybrid, albeit with a lighter more sweet tone than both.

Yea, I just added this to my list on netflix the other day, haven't watched it yet tho.

Skyscraper is the best movie I've seen this month. However, it's possibly the only movie I've seen this month. It's actually not bad for a shut off your brain stupid action movie.

Dave,

You're right. That one book of poetry, which I knew would be bad before I read a speck of it, won't kill my love of poetry. I'm amazed that the writer doesn't know how bad it is.

I did, as a favor, judge poetry and fiction for a couple years for a local writers group. The writers were earnest, but most were terrible. It was difficult picking the winners, especially since I was asked to say something about the "winning" entries.

Eighth grade was so good.

Wow, A Star Is Born is getting rapturous reviews. 88 on Metacritic so far.

And this song is incredible:

Lady Gaga as a regular person is somehow an even bigger star than she is as "Lady Gaga." What a face. What a voice.
