Play was an overwrought, "sure to provoke discussion" thing, which we didn't discuss. Pinter would have been better.

Dave, as Pascal said, "The heart has its reasons which reason knows not of." I'm afraid my head overrules my heart though.

I already did. You changing it back?

An Oscar Wilde play even better.

lastcardcharlie;

Congrats, but I have no idea what the Knowledge is.

John Cole;

Pascal was a mighty fine mind, even if it was flawed in many ways.

I prefer my own writing, warts and all; it shows the nature of my flawed mind.

What the heck is this Knowledge thing? Is it like Shriners?
09-25-2018 , 08:49 PM
I think it's knowing every street in London.
09-25-2018 , 08:51 PM
I'm grateful for my friends, those here, there, and everywhere. Just wanted to say that.
09-25-2018 , 10:51 PM
I'm grateful for you, too, John.

NO!

Well, my daughter assures me that a fourteen (soon to be fifteen) year age difference is "NOTHING" (her caps). I'm not so sure about that.
Bingo! Half your age plus nine is the upper bound. You could look it up. It's in the Koran or P. G. Wodehouse. Maybe Anthony Powell. Who knows, but they're words to live by.

Samuel Johnson?

LastCardCharlie, Congratulations! That's a hell of an achievement. Impressive.

I didn't even know it was still a thing in the age of TomToms etc. It does my heart good to know it is.

Half your age plus 7. Let's not short-change ourselves.

also, I remember seeing this decades ago at age fourteen (in 1979)...

"Four out of work Londoners apply to do "The Knowledge" to become London taxi drivers. They have to contend with learning 20,000 streets and 500 set routes as well as Mr Burgess, a notoriously sadistic examiner from the Public Carriage Office."

Geez, so 50 is too old? Hell, I qualify for 39 year olds. Now that's scary.

Ah I didnt notice he said 'upper bound'. Nonsense - such a range shows a weak and vacuous character.

The upper range is (your age - 7)*2

It's science, man.

The market is fluid and unpredictable right now. My examiner's view was that it should be okay in the short-term, but the longer-term problem is that fewer people are doing it.

hey i just noticed the new thread. ive been left out.

but it looks so far to be low content.

Hereditary was bad. There are some good ones, but i have yet to see a truly scary horror movie.

Favorites so far are Rec 1&2 and the witch.

It's supposed to be low content, but you've given me an idea for winter thread title.

What's the point of this Knowledge business in the age of GPS?
09-26-2018 , 10:18 AM
When I was a courier in L.A. for a few months, I would've qualified in "The Knowledge of Using the Thomas Guide."
