Raffa knows much about Mr. Rossellini's films, from her own knowledge and also from taking an Italian film class, required for her Master's Degree in Italian Studies. She bored me to death with her analysis of this arcane film of two bumbling humans stumbling about Rome and banging their heads against each other and against the marble statues that litter all the numerous plazas that pollute the dirty city of Rome. She claimed that Rossellini was the best director of films in the known universe. And possibly also in the unknown universes that contaminate the multiplexes of the cosmos. Kafka would agree.

Italians know all. And that is that.

I don't believe a word of any of this glop. But it was fun to write.

The bumbling couple never visit Rome, however. I'm sure, though, other Italian films do have couples in Rome. And I think Roman Holiday is about a holiday in Rome.

The Flowers of St. Francis is another Rossellini film that you could ridicule, Zeno. It's about St. Francis.

So after only one bottle of wine, I screwed up the location of the film. Such is life. It was in Italy so I got the country correct. I will note that Italy is a completely screwed up county so all locations within it are really meaningless anyway*. I should know, I visited the place long ago.

St. Francis is a saint for the birds. Birds used to sit on his head I think. Hitchcock should have done a film about him but he was too lazy and did other stuff that was almost as good as Rossellini but not quite. Anyway, I think my comment still stands - Rossellini stands alone. The universe bows to him. Also to Spinoza, but his work is in a different category.

* Not quite true; there is much acrimony between northern and southern Italy.

mrbaseball's post is just a dumb take though. you can love JP, love JW, and stilll think JW:FK sucked. i mean there's a reason the RT audience scores are 78% (3.9/5) and 58% (3.4/5) respectively.

Huh? I liked it though. I truly liked it. I will watch it again when it hits cable. I will likely end up owning a DvD of it. For me it didn't suck in the least. For me it was pure entertainment. Jurassic Park 2 (first sequel) is clearly the worst movie in the franchise but I still love even it. I pay no attention to critics scores as that doesn't effect my enjoyment. Especially when it comes to critically acclaimed crap that makes me wanna barf.

I'm sure, Mr. Baseball, you'd love this one. Not only is it subtitled, but every line of dialog is sung. Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Singing is fine, I like musicals But that looks like something that would bore me. A perfect example of a movie the lounge gushed over that I could take or leave was Ladybird. I thought it was okay but ultimately totally forgettable. If I would have never seen it that woulda been fine with me as I neither liked nor disliked it. Dinosaur movies on the other hand are something I can watch repeatedly and totally enjoy them even after several rewatches

Everyone has their own personal preferences. I like the movies from the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's that I grew up with and find that most newer stuff bores the hell out of me. Hollywood is basically out of ideas anyway. Saw the preview for the new Robin Hood movie. Hasn't this already been made 100 times and does it really need to be made again?

I think it would bore a number of people. I described it quite enthusiastically to a friend last week, and we watched the ending (so sad). She was slightly moved. Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Baseball: im glad you enjoyed the movie, but to me it was the embodiment of everything wrong with movies today. I too love dinos which is why i went, but unfortunately there was too much wrong with the movie for me to appreciate it despite having dinos.

The Blackcoat's Daughter

A horror movie where two girls stay at their Catholic school over winter break as another woman travels to their school.

I didn't like it. It was slow, the acting stylized to be flat and lifeless and the horror aspect didn't have much punch.

Umbrellas or Cherbourg was the Transformers of the 60’s.

The Domestics. 7/10

Fun lil post apocalyptic b movie. It's one of those slightly ridiculous but fun movies. It's like a cross between fallout and The Purge.

Watched Powell and Pressburger's I Know Where I'm Going again tonight. I am a sucker for love stories, but don't tell anyone. I have a reputation to uphold.

Wendy Hiller and Roger Livesy are terrific. I love this Gaelic line, "May your pulse beat as your heart may wish," and Hiller's heart learns to beat in time with her pulse. It's the classic story of a woman who must discover what and whom are right for her.

And I should add it's also the classic story of a man who must overcome his fears.

Cock blockers

Pretty much was a remake of American pie from a girls perspective. It was less original and way less enjoyable but it has its moments.

Some of the dialogue wad a clear rip off which was disappointing and shameless.

John cena continues to entertain.

Just saw Lady Bird and thought it was a completely average coming-of-age tale in a completely average town. I like coming-of-age stories too.

I feel like this would resonate to people from Sacramento, of course, but to everyone else? I definitely can get behind the idea of learning to love where you are from, but Sacramento is just another American dot-on-the-map middle of nowhere town. The movie completely failed in making both the town and this story seem anything other than ordinary because that’s what they are. And if that is part of the point, then make a better movie out of it. Although I thought the girl and her dad were great, the rest of the characters were forgettable. Way too many half-assed plot arcs too.

Just saw Sorry to Bother You. My prediction: breakout hit. It's very funny - one of the best satires that I've seen in a while. I don't want to ruin anything so I'm just going to leave the trailer here but would love to discuss with people once they've had a chance to see it.

Umbrellas is a magnificent film...it’s absolutely thrilling

Annihilation is terrible if any logic is applied.

Its ok if you don't think too hard about the plot holes and just focus on the premise of alien technology messing with earths DNA.

Sicario 2 I thought it was ok, preferred the first one but this was entertaining. Brolin and Del Toro are both great. Hated the ending, felt it was forced just to make this some sort of franchise but w/e movie was fine and I'll watch the third one.

Antman and The Wasp Never bothered to watch the first Antman but this was hilarious, and light-hearted albeit corny at times. It's a breeze to watch. Michael Douglas is as charming and funny as he's ever been. Just an all-around good time popcorn movie.
