Whether you believe it's possible for Ray Liotta to fall in love with Whoopi Goldberg isn't as important as the journey they take together along with the fathers emotionally distract and traumatized daughter Tina Majorino (from Napoleon Dynamite).
Agreed. Supremely delightful movie.

Just finished watching The Lobster (2015) on Prime. Didn't enjoy it much at all, although I did laugh a few times and appreciated its creativity. It started off promising enough but became pretty uninteresting and boring by the end.

It strikes me as one of those movies people claim to have enjoyed for fear of appearing dumb or of having bad taste otherwise.

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Desmond Doss was a conscientious objector in WWII who paradoxically enlisted, earning him the withering contempt of his comrades for being a yella belly coward who was bad for morale, before he became a medic & made all of his platoon eat humble pie by being so damn heroic he put Superman & that grouchy cigar smoking bloke from X Men combined to shame. Kicking away grenades, saving boatloads of wounded GI's by dragging them through no man's land under enemy fire while pausing only to think up ingenious ways to winch people to safety (while still under enemy fire) while getting all profound was all in a day's work for Doss who saved 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa alone causing his comrades AND superiors to look all embarrassed & gruff and say stuff like "I was wrong about you I hope you eventually can forgive me!"

So damn altruistic was Doss that he even treated some of the wounded enemy & was the only conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honour, probably because they simply didn't have enough Medals of Honour to build Doss a house and a car consisting of them. he was also awarded the Bronze Star twice, had 17 pieces of shrapnel dug from him & looked like a 1930s movie star to boot.

I'm not even American and I was continuously shouting out "GOD BLESS AMERICA!! all through this film until my prolly commie neighbours complained over the noise. I now finally understand why Doss & his cohorts are the Greatest Damn Generation EVER and could teach this wussy soy frappucino drinking sandal wearing snowflake generation a thing or two about a thing or two, lemme tell you.

Say what ya like about Mel Gibson but the sonovabitch sure knows how to make movies even if he is a racist anti Semitic weirdo.

Anyway I was very satisfied with this one even if it was gung ho & had Vince Vaughn as the absolute epitome of True American Grit and films like this make me want to grab a fake green card & live the American Dream albeit illegally. Well recommended.

I loled at your last sentence. I had the exact same reaction to the movie: thought it was really good, then slowed down a lot but was had some promise then finished in a completely boring way. Went steadily downhill after they left the original hotel or whatever.

Given your equipment, do you really ever need to go to a movie theater?

Pan https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3332064/

Enjoyable Peter Pan origin movie. Great fun to watch with your kids.

I love it when my nephew comes over for a visit, I get to see movies
I otherwise wouldn't watch, like,

TMNT:Out Of The Shadows https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3949660/ Nothing new or special here, but still a great action flick that had me laughing out loud a few times.

I get to watch movies with my granddaughter every week or so. I thought Paddington rather charming. And there's something about Sally Hawkins that I find highly appealing. Other great actors round out the cast.

Didn't think this was worthy of its own thread, but I thought that some of you movie aficionados might enjoy this Honest Trailer of Every Christopher Nolan Movie.

Solo was damn good fun...not sure what else one would want from an origins story.

Agreed.

Did we need this? Did anyone ask for it?

Nah.

But if you were going to make a Solo prequel, this was the way to do it.

And I suspect it will open the universe for general audiences to see other movies about side characters they otherwise wouldn't care about, such as the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy.

So did anyone else notice Clint Howard?

CN is getting a lot of heavy criticism for his work on the new release if 2001... supposedly he was in charge of the new UHD 4k release and folks were really worried about his tendency to skew coloration and hue. It turns out he's really only associated with the theatrical release that was a new photochemical transfer from the original camera negative.

His own 70mm work is outstanding... much higher quality than Taranino's, unfortunately. (imho)

Nolan is so insanely overrated. He has made one great film, one good one and a bunch of not good films.
05-29-2018 , 10:25 PM
lol Nolan never made a great film, gtfo

I was just speaking of the technical prowess related to working with 65/70mm film.

I love the cinematic experience, so much so that I tried to capture some of it for my home.

Frankly, most of my system is based around 2-channel listening, but I've integrated my system to encompass 5.1 music and by extension Home Theater... but Music is the number one priority.

But Nolan fails there too. If I want to look at a puzzle for three hours I'll get the thousand piece bowl of raspberries one. That will at least have a satisfying resolution.
