Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

can anyone who sees a quiet place in the next few days please let me know how scary it is. I think it’s going to be too scary for girlfriend, but looking to confirm. I too have mostly retired from the horror genre as I find it pretty stressful. the last movie vaguely of that ilk that I saw was 10 cloverfield lane in theatres alone, and I tensed every muscle in my body for an hour. I was effectively planking in my chair.

So yeah, really want to see this but maybe not the best idea.

The only thing 'Ready Player One' did for me was to make me feel uncomfortable holding in the need to pee for too long.

Ready Player One - meh

I left the theater an hour ago and I barely remember seeing the damn movie.

Same thing happened to me!
Spoiler:
Right after they found the first key. I think I made a poor choice to wait it out.

Dark Knight:

Spoiler:
It's explained very quickly, but during the meeting near the beginning the guy says "We've figured out that we can cover 80% of the hud with ads before oasis users start having seizures." They are planning to win rights to the oasis and then start monetizing it with ads.

RP1 (not even really spoilers, but):

Spoiler:
- everything up to the first key was pretty awesome
- from there until the second key was good
- the last hour(?) felt very long and was a lot less interesting

overall, i rather enjoyed it.

*GASP!*

By the end of the movie, it is quite clear they are substantially more dangerous than that.

Collecting keys is for D&D, not movies. Confirmed I'll never be seeing rp1.

Paterno on HBO this Saturday. Al Pacino is Joe.

For anybody stuck in NYC, the MoMA is doing a retrospective starting with Ozu's Floating Weeds, which I've never seen.

Everything about this is mesmerizing. His art is phenomenal. I was amazed at how he turns crosshatch strokes into something with so much depth. And, he's just incredibly prolific. His artistic ability, however, was overshadowed by his subject matter. It's like his mind just explodes. One of the interviewees described it as coming from his Id. It's just, wow.

Then, when you think he's the wacky one, you meet his brothers. Holy moly.

If I have any criticism with this, it is I wanted more. I wanted to know more about his early childhood. They described his father as abusive but there had to have been more than just that to cause the brothers to be so wacked out. I also would have loved to have seen the sisters interviewed (they declined).

Must see imo.
I love this movie so much, it might be my favorite movie of the 90s.

Gemini

L.A. Noir: Not in black and white, but they get the color right. Kinda Barton Finky.

Heather: check.

They call me: Mellow Yellow.

K-Town Blonde: double down.

To the rescue: Nancy Drew.

Nancy Drew? It's supposed to be noir.

Harold: Columbo misses Kumar.

Rice rocket: I had one at boarding school.

I'm glad to see you, too.

Trigger Warning: Ricki Lake.

Good Noir: never makes sense.

Pretty to look at: Check it out.

Gemini, and no space capsule(s)?

Also: how many naked boobs? Joe Bob Briggs would have included this useful information. You expect me to see this movie without this valuable output. Joe Bob would never leave his faithful so devoid of valuable information. In addition; How many gallons of blood?

Wind River is the best movie I have seen in at least a year... Of course, having called the Arctic my home for 17 years, the movie spoke directly to me... with all its unspoken allusions.

Apparently Gilliams Don Quixote wasn't completely dead...

Leave it to Zeno. I was going to reference all that, but figured no one would get it.

My old man lead the engineering team that coordinated the clock onboard the gemini with the one at mission control. Must have been what, 55 years ago?

Alas, zero boobs. Zero Boob Fu. Minor blood.

2001: A Space Odyssey is returning to theaters in mid-May in 70 mm. Haven’t found any theater info yet but it will be worth a drive.

Thanks, Phat. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

yeah, I've never seen it on the big screen....will have to go!

Seeing A Quiet Place today...

The new BladeRunner was very good. Length made me nervous going in, but it never dragged which is impressive given the slow pacing. It is a beautiful movie and I enjoyed hanging out in the world they built. No real weak points, but I think the Oscars got it right having it win cinematography, but not nominating it for any major awards.

Two questions:

Spoiler:
1) Are there any humans in this world? Even Leto seems to be a cyborg

2) How are they certain who Fords daughter is? I get that it fits, but I’m not sure what the smoking gun is that makes Gosling so sure

It's being released in UHD/HDR 4k... it's in conjunction with that. Supposedly Nolan himself is behind the completely new ground up restoration, since its 65/70mms.

From what I gather is that the release in 70mm is limited and unrestored. Unknown whether or not there is a wider release in digital... doubtful.

The movie was just restored a few years ago but it wasn't a definitive restoration in 4k and definitely not in UHD/HDR. I saw that release in digital and it was quite good... this new remaster should be spectacular.
