If people keep saying this lame argument, it doesn't make it true.

People of all ages love Inside Out, and that's most certainly a kids movie. It has a clever well-paced story, characters you care about and the jokes are lol funny.

Also if TLJ a children's movie, why the PG-13 rating? Clearly, it's target audience is not just children when children are not allowed to see it without an adult.

If they could use light speed as a weapon all along why is everyone firing pathetic pew pew lasers? They could have taken out the Death Star with a few X wings.

Why the hell did they go on a bombing run, dropping bombs like in WW2 or from a B52 in SPACE?

Poe does Poe things and nearly ruins everything entirely predictably all because no one would tell him anything even when he was clamouring for info. Are they just that incompetent?

I didn't have Luke's no marks as a logical hole that was actually just a cool detail I noticed.

A better villain? Is there a worse one? General Hux is all I got....

Numbers advantage plus they’re the elite guard. It would have been nice to know more about how Snoke rose to power but the movie was too long as is and it’s not that important overall.

Why don’t they have more kamikaze missions? Loss of life and resources. At least with missiles they have a chance of survival.

The super slow moving bomb ship is bad. But I guess there’s at least a plausible explanation that they’re low on resources and using 30 year old tech they find on these rebel bases.

It’s more like Poe is dumb. It’s a military. The generals don’t need to explain their plans to captains. They issue orders and people below them follow them.

Fair I thought it was a cool detail too.

Literally every DC villain is infinitely worse. Lex Luther in BvS was awful. The witch thing in Suicide Squad. Tall guy with horns from Justice League. It’s fine you don’t like Kylo but he is a defined and well drawn villain whose actions are in line with his character and Adam Driver is giving a great performance.

I agree with almost everything, but I don’t really see how not trying new things can be a criticism of the film. I’d say the opposite is true and none of it really works. The opening scene with Luke throwing his lightsaber off a cliff was supposed to be a metaphor for the whole film, wasn’t it? They killed the supremely powerful villain halfway through, and then decided that Luke Skywalker is some sort of semi-schizophrenic child killer. No emotional send off for Leia either. She can ****ing float through space now.

The problem is where they go from here. All of our familiar beloved heros are dead and what’s left are a bunch of mostly empty characters who I could care less about (Kylo being the exception).

I’m sure I’ll still go see Episode IX the day it’s released, but I’ve never been less excited for a Star Wars movie.

Some of the TLJ hate seems unreal. Worse than the prequels? C'mon, that just can't be.

Mostly this. I’m not really defending it because I think it’s great. But it’s like a 6 or 7 out of 10 and I enjoyed it enough

I tried to watch Logan Lucky at a friend's last night, got bored and left halfway through. Channing Tatum and Adam Driver are so unbelievable as rednecks (especially the accents), it just didn't work for me at all. It was a slapped together caricature of people who live in trailers and stuff, I guess, but it committed the grave sin of being totally unfunny.

I just rewatched the prequels over the weekend and yeah they're much worse than I remember them being.

Think TLJ had much higher expectations than TFA considering everyone wanted it to be something like Empire but think other than the Finn/rose stuff in it it thought it was fine... felt like they went against the grain of what everyone was expecting and I'm fine with that. Actually I'm glad it wasn't just a retread of earlier Star Wars stuff but yeah I'm ready for the mainline Star Wars series to end already

IMO he's a pretty lame villain. The underlying idea of Han and Leia's son becoming a sith lord was very promising but the execution was so poor that the character turned into a bit of an emo trainwreck.

One example of a better villain:
Spoiler:
Bane
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kylo.

Nowhere close to that bad but significantly worse than the other two of the reboots.

I watched them, too, and did not remember them being so, so, horrible. I mean, they are amazingly bad! The only thing I enjoyed was the big monster fight in II with Natalie Portman in the white, belly-bearing outfit.

I didn't even remember it before, but mitoclorians (or whatever)??? Seriously?

LOL come on. Bane was so bad that it ruined the whole movie.

I just don't buy this argument at all. The original triology is pretty damn dark and has themes that I couldn't fully appreciate until I was at least a teenager.

Spoiler:
Still don't understand the people defending this movie because it was "unprediactable" either. Snoke dying was the only thing that was surprising and besides that the plot and characters went literally nowhere. I liked the Kylo/Rey stuff for the most part but that doesn't excuse the other 120 minutes of the movie from being completely horrible.

All the star wars films are bad.

Star wars needs to to turned into a Musical...

Why is no one talking about The Disaster Artist? That is the feel-good movie of the year, most fun I've had at the movies in a long time. As other reviewers have said, you don't even need to be familiar with The Room to enjoy this, in fact, it may be better if you see this first and then experience The Room afterward.

The target audience for the Star Wars reboots is clearly nostalgic Gen Xers like me. At the same time, I appreciate that they're trying to pass the torch on to kids and have new stories with new characters like Rey, Finn, and Poe. It's not pure 30-something fanservice like the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies were.

See, this seems like a fair review.

Saw The Shape of Water tonight. I enjoyed it, especially Richard Jenkins, a nice guy who once helped my mom struggle to put on her coat with her having no idea who he is, and Sally Hawkins, who really shines throughout. I love how del Toro loves movies, and this one, while inspired by Creature From the Black Lagoon, clearly owes its inspiration to Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast.

Shot in hues of green, and with splashes of red throughout, the camera moves fluidly as it should. It's a love story and a fairy tale (perhaps just a bit too relevant), but what's wrong with that?

I'm surprised Logan isn't getting any awards love...it's certainly one of the best movies of the year. Jackman is incredible and I really thought Stewart would get some notice for his old, broken down Xavier.

Just saw it again, and, man, it holds up. Certainly the best X-Men movie, and could very well be the best superhero movie ever.
12-19-2017 , 06:16 AM
I was really surprised at just how good Logan was - the story was so strong I felt the superhero stuff just got in the way, and the writers were smart enough not to over do that aspect.
