You don't have to have seen the original, but it would change how you interpret some things in the sequel. Many scenes are tacitly referential to the original.
Saw
Blade Runner 2049 today at the Red Rock Cinemas. It is certainly very good, I'm not sure it's great, my jury is still out on that. It tries too hard in places and seems to be ever conscious of the fact that it's laboring in the shadow of the original. Still, it's a good movie worth seeing.
The plot is uber-predictable, my wife and I both had it correct within the first few minutes.
A lot of the dialogue is third-level, but too obviously so, a sign the script was over-edited by people familiar with modern script writing "rules."
The good guys are good and the bad guys bad, both without nuance or subtlety.
Regardless, it's a feel-good ride for
Blade Runner fans (I'm one). I enjoyed it and recommend it.
