Reviews are really solid for BR2049, essentially saying it does the original justice. Definitely grabbing tickets for Thursday if I can.

Is Final Cut streaming anywhere online?
09-29-2017 , 04:30 PM
I don't see it anywhere...but it is playing in theaters next week nationwide.

man so ****ing hyped for this.

I hardly watch tv or movies, but I saw "Seven Days in Hell" last month at a friend's house. Couldn't stop laughing for a few days after viewing.

Annihilation trailer has me pretty psyched.

^^^agreed! Alex Garland is a modern auteur. Very excited for this movie and anything else he does.

I have heard amazing reports of a film called Bodied at Fantastic Fest. Produced by Eminem, tells the story of a skinny white nerd that gets involved in the world of rap battles.

Despite it winning the audience award more than once, studios won't pick it up for distribution because they don't think anyone would want to see it. Lol?

I would be so excited to watch that.

Good time to bring up the Stretch and Bobbito documentary on Netflix. Two regular dudes (1 white, 1 Puerto Rican) started a college radio hip hop show in the Tristate area in the early 90s and ended up debuting a good chunk of the biggest names in hip hop history. If you like hip hop just a little you need to see this because they truly helped shape the industry. They're also really funny guys who get incredible interviews from huge names. Some of the old footage they dig up is pretty incredible.

The Bad Batch

There is some good cinematography but that is the only positive part of this movie. Character motivations are incoherent and illogical. The symbolism and themes in this film either becomes muddled or completely abandoned beyond the most shallow of interpretations.

The pacing is clunky. The acting mostly wooden save for a semi interesting Keanu Reeves. Style too derivative of much better films.

Save your time and rewatch Mad Max.

GF isn't really a big movie watcher so I'm trying to figure out what she might like and introduce her to some of the movies I've seen.

So, we watched Pan's Labrynth last night.

This is my third viewing and I was just as mesmerized as I was the first time I saw it. It is truly an amazing movie. GF loved it and has instantly become one of her all time favorites.

Just so good.

Heidi We've been watching the Vietnam series (which is phenomenal) but needed a break from the heaviness so we did some channel surfing and landed on this.

I have a bit of nostalgia for Shirley Temple. When I was a child my Dad watched a lot of movies on Saturday morning. A lot of Shirley Temple with a heavy dose of Charlie Chan movies. Neither was really my thing but they were enjoyable and it is interesting to me to re-watch some of these now.

Heidi wasn't the typical Shirley Temple movie. No singing or dancing but you can't take away the cute factor. It was actually pretty enjoyable. A little sappy but a good feel good story and the comedy was better than I would have expected. The scene with the monkey was awesome.

Hahaha, the title of the movie has been censored. Click the link. Or don't.

My God! it even killed the link! This is too good! We'll try it this way...

Spoiler:

Kemilla: steals your heart.

L.A. Noire: check.

Car wash karaoke: check.

Disco shoe store: check.

Chicks dig: R & B.

It's raining: shoes.

Cinematography: beautiful.

Length: 94 minutes.

I liked: 88 minutes.

JFC people, listen up. If you want to make a movie, DO NOT come up with a premise. Come up with an ENDING, and then work backwards so you can lead up to it. Nobody cares about the premise. You have to tell a story.

I sat in the movie, and I was getting interested in what was going on, and I was interested in the characters and who they were, and then somebody on the set said, "Hey, we're at 90 minutes! Time to go! We'll tack some weird **** on the end that'll tug at the heartstrings and we're outta here!"

GMAFB! Go listen to some Flip Wilson records and note how he tells a story. Or maybe watch some old Twilight Zone.

I'd say wait for TV on this one, but instead I think I'll have them pull the movie and refilm the ending.

In the meantime, the forum will read The Gangster We Are All Looking For, and will then write the author a fan letter.

Spoiler:
I definitely can see the religious allegorical elements, though when I was watching it, I thought it was an allegory for the creative process and JLaw was supposed to be his Muse. My friend read a critique that said JLaw was supposed to represent Mother Earth. In the end, I don't even care enough about this movie to debate it. Just shrug my shoulders and move on.
I thought the same thing as you did until I watched a few reviews which point out the obviousness of what it really is.

Agreed it was trash.
10-03-2017 , 01:57 PM
Trash as in not missing out on anything by not seeing it? I've avoided all talk of it (even in this thread) in the vain that if I do happen to get the urge to see it, I can give it my own clean viewing. It's pretty much a "if there's nothing else" type of movie though, and I'd only be going because of my moviepass.

Now that rap battle trailer looked sort of interesting, mainly because whoever posted it said it's had good feedback, but I also see why no one would want to push it into theaters. It seems like it's coming from a similar angle as 8 mile (obviously...) and from the trailer there's like no story, just a kid who gets involved in rap battles. That kinda stuff can be easily found on YouTube. What does this movie offer that can't be found elsewhere?

Man Blade Runner is getting such good reviews. Don't think I could be more excited.

I saw that Toni Erdmann may be remade starring Jack Nicholson and Wiig with writing by Lena Dunham . Intelligent film. Characters feel real. Not sure if a US version can match the German and Romanian settings.

Watching Broadcast News while I grade papers...it has not aged well. A lot of Brooks' work doesn't age well, actually.

What's the best version of Blade Runner to watch for someone who has never seen it?
10-05-2017 , 01:01 PM
Does anyone else check that the aspect ratio is correct before watching a movie on streaming or cable? Sometimes 2:35:1 (the super wide) movies are cropped to 1.85:1 (standard widescreen televisions). It's the exact same problem as pan-and-scan on old televisions.

Wasn't crazy about it, would strongly recommend your name as this year's anime to see for people who aren't already big fans of the genre.

Bad music that sounds like it's from a 2001 Japanese role-playing game: check.

Made me want to continue watching Neo Yokio on Netflix, which after one episode seems to be making fun of these tropes: yea

Final Cut, on Blu-Ray or in the theater. The theatrical cut I think was streaming on Netflix last time I checked; if you're in a pinch I guess go for it? But make sure it's the correct aspect ratio, otherwise do not bother. (There should be black bars on top and bottom.)

The visuals and music/sound are key here so watching it streaming on a tablet for example would be a bad idea.

The Final Cut is the true, final vision of Ridley Scott. that's the one you want to see.
