Free Fire

Was fun...I liked it.

The Fate of the Furious

Jesus God this was one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen. I swear a 15 year old wrote this.

My favourite German movie

It's literally my #1 film of all time, a perfect masterpiece but it doesn't seem to be of the same ilk as the other film RBK posted.

Dom, Dom, Dom you seriously shouldn't be ****ing up the name of one of your top five (which is also one of mine) unless of course the Unusual Supsects is a real movie. Mind you, I do forgive you for the Freudian slip.

Need to rewatch this ASAP. Flawless film.

Loving, Jeff Nichols, 2016

Flawless telling of the famous Loving-Supreme Court case, but in the languid, Jeff Nichols way. Just fantastic in every way. I get so emotional watching social injustice movies that I become angry enough to hit someone lol.

Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga play the Lovings, and Nick Kroll their attorney. Negga is especially wonderful.

A must-see.

Since Villeneuve is behind the camera, I respectfully disagree.

I hated Bladerunner and thought it was super overrated until relatively recently when I saw the directors cut and it blew me away. Must be one of the biggest gaps between theatrical release and directors cut quality of movies I have seen.

The Rainmaker A young lawyer, fresh from passing his bar exam, takes the case of a dying man who could not get medical treatment because his insurance company refuses to pay. While he is preparing for the trial, he gets personally involved with a young woman being abused by her husband.

The movie is based on a Grisham novel. The story was solid but there were definitely some eye-rolling courtroom twists. The movie benefited from a star-studded cast. The acting was superb.

It was good, not great.

Nope. It was Chris Morgan. He has written all of the Fast movies since Tokyo Drift, as well as Wanted (Angelina Jolie dodges bullets movie) and 47 Ronin (Keanu is a samurai) which lost Universal an estimated $152m in 2013.

Here's a short interview with him. You will want to watch this interview, trust me.

See, they fooled me with the fifth one - it was good. The one after that had one of the leads really dying while making it, so I gave it a pass.

This flat out sucked.

Oh Jesus, he wrote Wanted? The one about the magical loom giving Jolie instructions on who to kill, or whatever?

****ing hell that makes me angry.

Couple of movies in the same-ish outlaw vein:

Lawless - 87/100. I just love this underrated Hardy flick and I can't exactly put my finger on why. I love everything about it.
Place Beyond The Pines - First 1/3 - 89/100. 2nd 2/3's - 39/100.

Two De Niro movies on flights this week:

The Comedian: awful. Painful to watch. Avoid it. The only redeeming feature is that De Niro's former acting partners--Charles Grodin, Billy Crystal, and Harvey Keitel have small roles in the movie, so there's the nostalgia.

Goodfellas: Scorsese's best movie ainec imho. Still holds up after all these years. Liotta, Bracco, De Niro, Sorvino, and Pesci are terrific, as is the pacing of the movie and how Scorsese captures the feel of the time and place. I grew up in Queens at that time and have read Pileggi's book on which the movie is based (also terrific). I imagine it's been 20 years since I've seen the movie in its entirety and I have more admiration for it now than ever.
