Nope. Can't hit the ball any longer. Still chip and putt well, but that's it.
10-15-2018 , 12:43 AM
I was a 7 on an A course and doubt I could break 100.

Apostle 2018 (on Netflix)

★★★★

Solid, visceral, very adult entry into the folk horror subgenre. Dan Stevens looks a bit like a demented Capaldi early on, and also sometimes channels a young Ralph Fiennes, but he's quite terrific, along with the rest of the cast. Looks beautiful, and the story is never predictable.

You're right about that.

I have a "3 hour" interview today. I have no clue what to expect. I'm just going to roll with this and hope for the best.

Catching up on the thread.

Judy Garland still GOAT woman singer.

I'm old and get up to pee twice a night, but I can still get through a movie. I just don't drink anything.

My wife isn't a movie person at all. I've had to give up watching a lot of movies when I got married, but I'm fine with that. The plusses far outweigh that. But, I have been able to introduce her to a few of my favorites. She generally likes them, but I don't think more obscure movies would hold her interest. She won't ever tell me that she doesn't like a movie, but she falls asleep if it doesn't hold her interest. Actually, her attention span is about an hour so we've been watching more and more TV series.

Anyway, a couple we watched recently that she liked.

Pulp Fiction For some reason, all I could think about when I watched it this go around was the "Plot Hole" thread here. I mean, Willis runs over a guy in the middle of the street, crashes the car, bad guy shoots a woman, then chases Bruce down the street. Stuff happens, then Bruce comes out of the pawn shop and there isn't a single cop anywhere. Not to mention shooting up an apartment, and spending at least 1/2 hour in a locked diner with guns drawn. Not a cop around. I digress. But, I still love the movie.

Chinatown She loved this one. I do too.

Downfall We got about 1/2 way through this, but she wants to see the rest so I'm taking that as a thumbs up. Man, I like this movie. The way Hitler is portrayed as a broken man is fascinating to me. All you ever see is him riling up the masses with his speeches, but I'm sure once things started crumbling, he did as well. Anyway, fantastic movie.

I've pretty much completed falling apart, but maybe I'm just kidding myself, maybe there's plenty more to do.

Gym? The only thing worse than going to a gym would be paying to go to a gym. Get outside! Put a 20 lb bag of cat litter in a back pack and hike up a mountain. Breathe some fresh air.
10-15-2018 , 02:00 PM
i agree mack ive never been to a gym. i use outside fresh air and work or hiking for it instead.
john cant exercise because it is too dangerous in his flip flops he wears.

as we get older we all fall apart until the end. all we can do is prolong it and make the last run better.
10-15-2018 , 02:08 PM
I have been walking fairly regularly for exercise, but I probably won't go to a gym. And I can't wear flip flops. Sandals, yes, but I need something that won't fall off when I walk.
10-15-2018 , 02:10 PM
I just completed a roundtrip 6 mile hike up and down a coastal mountain. Beautiful views, fresh air, verdant forests, and bears and cougars and birds and other wild beasts. Including other humans - the worst beasts of all. But mostly the hike was in quiet solitude - a Walden walk.

Get your ass out the door. If not for exercise, at least to cause trouble. Like John singing.

United States of Jones

Quote:
A disillusioned Confederate army deserter returns to Mississippi and leads a militia of fellow deserters and women in an uprising against the corrupt local Confederate government.
On Netflix

McConaughey gives a great preformance as a deserter who rebels against the Confederacy. I give this movie points for extending his story into Reconstruction and the bitter sweet defeat it was. The coda of his descendant fighting miscegenation was useful as a throughline of the oppression that slavery, the Redeemer governments, and Jim Crow was to large portions of the population but didn't feel especially resonant. I'd recommend it.

If anyone is looking for this, the title is actually "Free State Of Jones". I enjoyed it also.

That interview wasn't as scary as I feared. I feel like it may have went well.

Bird in the hand issue. I went on an interview on Friday and they seemed to really like me, however, today's interview pays 3x the money, so I'm trying to hold out because I don't want to be the guy that says "yeah, I can start on X" and then change my mind.

Sigh...
10-16-2018 , 09:42 AM
If you get an offer from the first interview, it won't hurt to say you have multiple offers to consider.
10-16-2018 , 10:52 AM
Bink!

10-16-2018 , 03:07 PM
Yesterday's interview contacted me. I may be able to start next week, but my background in contracting only is working against me, as always.

I'm freaking out.
