Clovis and Dom bring a little bit of sanity into my world.

Rewatched Toni Erdmann recently, and it remains my favorite film of 2016. Wasn't distracted for a second of its long running time.

i'm surprised the sicario sequel is as low as it is on RT. you could certainly debate whether it was ok, good, or very good, but i'm shockedthat it's getting negative reviews on RT's binary system.

personally i thought it was very good and some of the scenes were quite stunning visually.

Watched Wind River tonight with my brother and sister-in-law. I liked it, but the tacked on message at the end was completely unnecessary.

While playing an online tournament, I'm watching Justice League.

The first fifteen minutes are so inept and confusing, that it's astonishing. I'm amazed at how Zach Snyder just gets worse and worse with every movie he makes.

I do like Ben Afleck as Batman, tho.

There are also lots of loving, close up shots of Gal Gadot's ass, so at least Snyder is doing something right.

You may be blaming the wrong director. Apparently, Justice League was more Josh Whedon's film than Zach Snyder's. There's even a movement afoot to get a rumored Zach Snyder's cut (if it exists) released. Here's a couple of articles on the behind-the-scenes soap opera.

Hmm. I guess someone could make an all singing love story starring the Transformers, combining both genres, and it would be the widest audience pleasing movie of all time .....or the worst one. But what to call it? Umbrellas vs the Transformers?

Right out of the Megan Fox opening ass shots in Transformers. Or so I have read.

No wonder the movie’s a mess...as much as I despise Snyder’s oeuvre, he at least has a style and POV uniquely his own, and the studio should’ve let him present that POV, instead of hoping Whedon could on and save it.

I mean, say what you will, but at least Suckerpunch and Man of Steel make sense.

Snyder left the movie after his daughter committed suicide. The studio wasn't involved in the decision.

Oh crap, that’s right! Now I feel bad. Fine, I’ll blame Whedon for the mess that is the movie.

I just want to know, why can Aquaman fly??

After seeing Avengers Civil War I decided not to see Antman. I like Rudd but doubted he was good enough to play a main character.

Anyways ended up seeing Antman 2, confirmed that Rudd isn't really a good enough actor imo, and the story was a mess but I still had a lot of fun with the movie. Despite all of the flaws with the movie the storytelling was cleverly done enough that the movie was a lot of fun, and I found myself laughing a lot. It was like a pg version of Deadpool sort of.

Yeah, I had the same problem with this aspect. I can accept plot holes like this in Marvel movies, but not one masquerading as a serious thriller.

Spoiler:
Surviving being shot in the head was also eye-rolling.

That said, I really enjoyed it - as much as the first movie, although it did miss the grounding of Blunt's moral compass, and indeed Blunt herself.

Colossal (2017)

An alcoholic party girl who returns back to her hometown finds out she controls a monster terrorizing Seoul.

A good movie that makes you wonder why there were whole swaths of people who claimed to hate Ann Hathaway. She comes off as a great actress who convincingly plays drunk, hungover, morally horrified, and a whole gambit of emotional states. I didn't quite buy Jason Sudeikis as the villain but I didn't get hung up about it. Kudos to the movie for making me care about what happens in an empty playground.

Anne Hathaway is amazing. I'm not sure why people don't like her, either.

We Own The Night - 84/100

Disclaimer: I’m a sucker for movies involving organized crime, good vs evil, revenge, and drugs, so anything with all 4 is going to appeal to me.

I unabashedly loved this flick and was glued to the TV for the entire thing. The end got a little cliche and hard to buy, but I almost can’t blame it as action movies all seem to have a hard time wrapping up without throwing in a few tired cliches (SPOILER ALERT: the friend double crosses him, Joaquin is given a badge and fearlessly leads us into battle, and Marky Mark takes a desk job because of his PTSD).

I think it’s way better than The Departed, as I felt all the praise lumped on that was more a Scorcese Lifetime Achievement Award than anything else. In fact I can’t remember a cop movie made in the last 20 years that I liked as much as this, other than Mystic River, which is in its own league and untouchable in my book. I really liked the Russian villain too. He had a believable hard look to him, and I liked the Oleg Taktarov cameo as I was a big fan of his back in the day (pretty positive that was him anyways, too lazy to look it up).

Duvall and Phoenix are great (Duvall has played one character for 30 years and I love him every time), Mendes throwing 90 as usual, and Wahlburg is fine.
