I liked that line too. As Joe Jackson sang, it's different for girls.

I really enjoy the wedging in of Joe Jackson into a Movie Talk Thread. It adds luster that was taken away by even mentioning Amy Scammer.

I find it hard to believe that I never heard of this movie: (Starring James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich). Perhaps Loungers have mentioned it before but I can't recall if and when.

Destry Rides Again

Just saw the DVD in the library. I'll give it a go when I have the time.

AMC is offering a subscription plan to counter MoviePass. $20 for 3 movies a week, including 3D and IMAX. It's not as cheap as MoviePass's $10 monthly fee, but still quite a deal.

One of my favorites, and Madeliene Kahn's Dietrich parody is based on the song " The Boys in the Back Room" in Destry.

Watched one of DB's favorite films, Get Carter, tonight. Michael Caine is terrific in this. Very '70s.

i thought this, but his new tv show (all 10 hours written and directed by himself) is supposed to suck

the new sicario is supposed to be as awesome as expected though!

Watched two movies tonight. First, Howard Hawks's Twentieth Century, which stars Carole Lombard and John Barrymore. I have never scene this before, and while not in the same class as Hawks's other screwball comedies, it's delightful watching Lombard and Barrymore.

And for the second time, I watched Abbas Kiarostami's Certified Copy. God, do I love Juliette Binoche. There's one scene in which she stands in front of a mirror, putting on lipstick and earrings that's riveting. And when Kiarostami ends the film with the man starring into a mirror, we somehow sense it's a comment on reproduction with a difference. It's one of my favorite films of the past 15 years.

As I've said before, when I taught film class In The Mood for Love was the only film I never changed for 12 years. Coincidentally, I had watched Before Midnight a couple days ago too.

So Hereditary is a pretty good horror movie Toni Collette is as good as she's ever been. There's an uneasiness throughout the movie that is unrelenting and terrifying but I think what Hereditary does best is that it feels like its grounded in reality for the majority of the movie until it flips the switch which makes iti more effective than most modern horror movies like "The Conjuring" which kind of feel silly dumb and cartoonish in comparison. I'm not sure it nails the ending but the last 20 minutes still have me shook.

The Movie is being compared to a classic horror film
Spoiler:
The Exorcist and I think the comparison is fair. Kind of feel like it's the first time a movie has been able to effectively replicate the feel, pacing and uneasiness in it's crescendo as TE. It's obviously not as good but man that ending

Alien: Covenant

Meh, half of it imitates all the other Alien movies and the other half that tries to add to the mythos is so confusing you have to look up what they're trying to do. Also an extremely dumb crew.
