Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

The original was probably the worst one. Though none of them are going to win Nobel prizes or anything, a couple have been watchable. The John Woo one comes to mind for sure.

My biggest issue with them is Tom Cruise, who to me is just not a good action star. But since he pretty much owns the franchise I'd say it's a safe bet he's not going anywhere.

Deadpool 2 was the same few gags over and over. Was pretty bored throughout, not even as good as Infinity War. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but it was way better than this.

Have to say I'm not sure about the Infinity War, which I saw earlier today. The first problem was that it was kind of depressing but the thing that bothered me the most was (spoilers ahead) the whole thing with Thanos defeating Hulk in combat right off the bat, when Hulk is arguably the most powerful character in the MCU. After that we're supposed to believe that people like Iron Man and Spider Man punching him are going to have any kind of an effect?

Anyways, I went into it looking for a fun movie where the bad guy gets pummeled by heroes, but instead he wins in the end and everyone dies. Wasn't the uplift I was hoping for to say the least.

What?? The first one is fantastic. 2 is not good. The rest are merely good. But they are all eminently entertaining.

Yeti - with a few very rare exceptions, I watch the new releases in theaters. The older stuff is on the laptop, usually streamed unless someone gives me a DVD rip via flash drive. The real killer is being in countries with rigorous censorship standards when something like Deadpool comes out and knowing I'm not seeing the full movie.

If they would release a 2 version with all the sound intact, but minus any dialogue, you would understand its true greatness. Try to find a copy dubbed in a foreign language, then watch it with the subtitles off.

I walked out of the theater when someone peeled off a mask and was really someone else. The face mask apparently not only made him look exactly like someone else, but also completely changed his entire body structure and made his voice an exact replica of the person he was impersonating.

I've watched every James Bond movie, so I can hold back my disbelief about a lot of silly technology, but that was just too much for me to take. And I really wasn't enjoying the movie even before that. There was also a scene where someone was recounting a story while the story was being shown on the screen, and what was shown didn't match the story. Confused the hell out of me and I really couldn't follow what was going on after that. Someone later explained to me it was supposed to mean the guy was lying, but I had no idea what was going on at the time.

How to Talk to Girls at Parties

Trigger warning: Intergalactic Sex.

Super Trigger Warning: God help me, I am now a Nicole Kidman fan.

Trans-world tourist destination: Croydon.

Croydon: It's where the after party starts.

Go up to the one who looks loneliest: And speak in short admiring sentences.

I sense some: Tension.

Young love running through the park scene: check.

Aliens in the Burger King scene: check.

I sense there are some contradictions: In your metaphor.

You must leave now: No one knows why.

The inter-species sex is fun to watch, but may be confusing as aliens keep growing new appendages. Mild amatory cannibalism. Fun watch of 80s Brit punk scene. Check it out.

Theme song in the first MI was great. I know it's the same song in the others, but I they're either all the same (the movies) or I haven't seen them. I don't remember. Reminds me of the first Iron Man movie. It was not really good, but it was awesome when the credits rolled and they finally played the song. That's definitely the most memorable thing from a superhero movie ever for me.

I had given up on superhero movies a while ago, but I just learned Thor Ragnarok was made by one of the What We Do In The Shadows guys. I may have to see that one.

the last few MIs have been the best imo. simon pegg was a good addition.

With all the build-up and publicity surrounding Infinity War, did you really go into it not knowing that it was basically the first half of a two-part movie?

Mission Impossibke 2 is one of the few movies I have ever walked out of also.
05-17-2018 , 12:21 PM
Don't blame you if they couldn't even get the title screen right.

Well yeah I guess I did. Come at me, bro!

Maybe they should rename it "Two Part War"

Saw Infinity War over the weekend. Enough people and websites were posting semi-spoilers, not even giving people a week or two to see it, that I had to finally go (I definitely wanted to, just hadn't had the time) before I knew the entire plot.

****, I was IN the movie and didn't know what happened in advance (I'm a blur in the background. When the first bad guys land in NYC, I can be seen running away when Stark, Dr. Strange, Banner, and Wong open the door to Strange's apartment).

Thought it was great!

My only issue with the movie isn't really about the movie itself, but it makes the ending less impactful:

Spoiler:
We already know a Guardians 3 and Spiderman 2 are being made (Spiderman starts filming this summer, I believe), so unless there's a new Spidey and the Guardians team is only Rocket, I think we know not everyone is staying dead.

One of my favorite bits from the MI franchise was that plane stunt in Rogue Nation. Say what you will about Tom Cruise as an actor or a religious goofball, that guy puts everything he's got into making sure you enjoy his movies. They could have easily gone with a stunt double or CGI, but Cruise does it Buster Keaton-style with no safety net.

Tom cruise is the new Harold Lloyd... except Harold Lloyd was better.

Thought Infinity War was an absolute blast, even though my favorite hero* wasn't even in it. I think it got poor reviews, but honestly it might be the most fun I've had with an MCU movie. Lots of great in-jokes for those who have seen the other MCU movies, but I still found it accessible even though I've missed a few (what happened to Cap's shield?).

Pro tip: don't bother waiting for the teaser at the end. Credits are super long and you're gonna wind up looking it up on the internet anyway.

Spoiler:
* Hawkeye!

Spoiler:
lol, jk, obv Antman. Why'd the leave Antman out?

Deadpool 2: If you liked the first one, you'll like this one; if not, you won't.

John Travolta playing John Gotti. What a joke.
