Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

BR2049 I really liked it. I thought they tied it in with the original quite well. I liked the entire look and feel of it.

Off topic rant

Spoiler:
The sound system at the theater was awful. It appeared they were trying to get an action movie feel to it or something. In the scenes where there was just dialogue it was fine, but any action and it became ear-splitting. Since I don't know the theaters here well, I looked around and saw a lot of comments about this particular issue at the theater. Because of the time and location, we took a chance and went there anyway. It almost ruined what was a really good movie.

I definitely want to see it again.

Too Funny to Fail Great documentary about the short lived Dana Carvey show. I remember it, but not that well. It was amazing how many top-notch comedians were involved. Many got their start there. It got a little long-winded towards the end, but still quite good.

Would recommend.

I enjoy watching comics being comics. I don't know how to explain that too well, but comics have a different sensibility when they get together. This documentary reminded me of another comic's movie - The Aristocrats. Another I would recommend.

Comedian (2002 with Seinfeld) for sure.

Lol I came to post that I liked BR2049 except for the SCREAMING SYNTHS so it might not be just your theater.

It's not a scary movie really nor all that gory, it's just a movie infused with dread. It actually left me a bit nauseated for an hour after I watched it.

And, it is a beautifully shot movie from a first-time director. It's currently streaming on Netflix. It is in French so you'll have to watch subtitles.

This was.....interesting. I wouldn't say it's not all that gory. Def very original and well done. Not sure I'd rewatch it, but glad I saw it.

I think this issue... is part of the make up of the Film.

My viewing of the movie was the same... normal dialog and quite scenes were blown out of the water by extreme loudness and impact of the Score.

The soundtrack I purchased is the same way, moments of softness followed by extreme loudness. the song "Seawall" (from the ending sequence and fight scene) is friggen Epic!

(FWIW, they only made 2049 copies of the original Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack... copies are going for $200 now. they are going to release another 2049 with a different cover).

I found the soundtrack nowhere close to as bad as Interstellar on that front.

The sound design and score for BR2029 is spectacular.

Saw Wonder Woman. It was okay, I guess.

So are the Amazons lesbians? Why wouldn't Diana ask her mother why there are no other little children around? How does Diana know how to kiss? Or how to put on 1920s clothes correctly?

If Danny Huston wasn't Ares, who the hell was he and what was that stuff he was sniffing?

I'd pay to see a Connie Nielson and Robin Wright kicks movie, tho.

Lol...I was reading a review and it stated that
Spoiler:
the movie isn't gory because the movie only showed them eating people 3 times.

Going to see John Carpenter play his movie music in his anthology tour at hard rock

Damn, that sounds awesome. I'd be more excited about Perturbator than Carpenter.

I enjoyed this far more than I expected to. It starts of a little tepid then bam! One scene takes it in a whole new, sometimes uncomfortable, direction.

Pretty good supernatural drama, not usually my thing but this one held me to the end.

A local cinema was playing a 40th anniversary screening of Eraserhead. I had never seen it before and liking Lynch I opted to go. The horror. I barely got through it.

lol at least it's short!

I'd love to see it on the big screen, tho

Elephant Man... lynch showing off his magnificent B/W film making skills.

If you could "barely get through" Eraserhead, you probably would sadly not make it through Elephant Man.

Only a pencil-neck geek would quit on Eraserhead!

Eraser head is nightmare inducing. Like the Aphex Twin track Ventolin it causes nausea. Elephant Man is a great film and not hard to get through.

Oh I thought they meant "the horror" like it was so scary and wonderful they couldn't get through it.

I have Eraserhead at ~#1.

I was pretty lukewarm on The Elephant Man last time I saw it, however it was in this small art museum screening room and a woman was chewing and popping gum really obnoxiously. When I eventually turned to say something she successfully ignored me, which made me feel bad. The chewing stopped a short time later, unsure if related.

Felt the movie was basically Lynch's version of what we'd now call "Oscar bait".

Lynch was a hired gun. Producer Mel Brooks hired him after seeing Elephant Man.

Enjoyed this a lot, even the stomach-turning moments.
Hard to believe someone actually did this.
Great lazy sunday movie.

If you guys have the chance to see Elephant Man in a quality the big screen environment or in HD on the small screen, Lynch really shows his technical prowess because the tonal qualities and lighting are really magnificent in Eman.

You can make the Oscar fodder argument and have a basis for that ideal even though the acting is wonder, but the real star to me is the lighting and cinematography.

Not gonna see Elephant Man, too many other superhero movies out right now.
