You can really see the analog aspects of the movie in this transfer from the original camera negative... along with the softness of many of the lenses used to capture the existing light shooting Kubrick did in this movie in an effort to maintain period feel.

A new 5.1 soundtrack is also mixed in this offering that was derived from the monoaural original.
so random I watched barry lyndon last night.
I have to watch it at least 10 more times to have watched it the same number of times sober as on psychedelics.

Leto is ruined because of his Joker bull****.

I disliked Arrival upon reflection and put it in a similar ballpark as something like The Martian, an easily digestible movie that makes people feel smart for watching it because of science. (It also feels like American Beauty to me though that doesn't make a lot of sense.) Throw an unreal cliche grief storyline and horrific music on top of that and you've got a hit.

Also, I wish there was a bunch more Jared Leto scenes in B2049R. Think there was more to explore there and Leto was real good in those few minutes of screen time. He crushed the hardest in that short the director commissioned.
Prisoners is fantastic imo. Enemy is oke, one of those movies I had to look up after watching because I really didnt understand it. Should rewatch it

Arrival was good but with a disappointing ending for me.

You guys should check out his earlier, Canadian films.

And Enemy is brilliant.

Arrival and Prisoners were both good. Neither were great.

I shouldn't have missed Enemy. The trailer looks great.

Prisoners is brutal. Very good but would not watch it unless you are emotionally prepared.

I loved Enemy and should rewatch it. It’s pretty strange, so not for everybody, but I thought it made sense. Gyllenhall’s great as per usual.

Arrival (and Interstellar) are two movies I always defend when people **** on them. A lot of these criticisms are valid, but I think despite being flawed these are very good (and even important) movies. In the next decade there will probably be several better movies about their subject matter, but I think it’s great that they’re taking a chance. I’m just glad there are movies that explore language, space and time that are being made by the cutting edge talent in the industry. They haven’t worked out all of the kinks, but they will. For now I’ll take Arrivals cloudy interpretation of a link between language and time and Interstellars wonky interpretation of a black hole. It’s just fun stuff to get immersed in.

I'm a huge fan of political biographies, and I can't wait for this:

And holy cow, it looks like Woody Harrelson is amazing as LBJ...it's like DDL and Lincoln.

Not to kill your buzz but this is what I thought about LBJ over a year ago. Saw it at TIFF 16. It's interesting that they're giving it a November release after sitting on it for this long. I wonder if they gave it a big recut?

So you're saying it wasn't good? That's disappointing.

It's been over a year since I've seen it and who knows if they've made any changes since then but iirc it was pretty surface level stuff. It covers a bunch of different events from around that time period but doesn't really get deep into many of them. It was mildly interesting and I learned some things about LBJ but I don't have any desire to see it again when it's released. I did see it like a day or two after seeing Jackie so sitting through a second recreation of JFK's assassination that I think was less interesting might have made me harsher on it too.

Arrival kind of fell apart at the end, but I really appreciate the fact that people are making cerebral sci-fi films that fill that essential sci-fi role of asking "what if" questions.

Same here.

Just read a bizarre article on how in The Snowman, Val Kilmer is never seen speaking on camera - they cut away from him and his dialogue is obviously dubbed.

^ that sounds awesome... it might be so bad that is good.

Just realised I have seen Prisoners. The name wasn't familiar but it was really good. Extremely tortuous emotionally.

Heh...I'm reading Robert A. Caro's volume 1 as we speak. I want to be "spoiled" on as few details as possible, so I would not see the movie until I'm up to date on the released books. So 3-10 years basically.

Ya I forgot that I saw it too. Emotionally tough but I wrote last year that it "lets you off the hook".

Thoughts on Blade Runner in 3D? Trying to decide if we should do VIP + 3D or wait an hour for iMax. Also debating seeing It, so plan my night for me!

I wasn't a big fan of Prisoners...it was like emotional torture porn.

Def gotta see it in iMax.

I enjoyed It, but it wasn't anything spectacular.

Nocturnal Animals

Damnit, totally didnt understand the ending. After reading up on it afterwards I was like "oooh".
Really wish I could figure stuff like that out by myself, same with the recently mentioned Enemy here.

Still really enjoyed it, Jake Gyllenhaal what an actor.

+1 I don't understand why his name is Loki and why no one in the movie thinks that's strange.

Why do you think it is strange?
