L.A. Confidential absolutely was the right choice for the Oscar it did win, "Best Supporting Actress." Here was the competition that year:
Best Supporting Actress
Titanic: Gloria Stuart
Good Will Hunting: Minnie Driver
L.A. Confidential: Kim Basinger
In & Out: Joan Cusack
Boogie Nights: Julianne Moore
The only one that I think gave any decent competition was Julianne Moore, and even that's colored by PT Anderson doing his thang.
