Eastwood is just a titan, whether directing, acting, or living forever.

That English Bob character is too much, and the rest of the cast is superb.

The Fly
The Shining
The Wall
Unforgiven
such an epic movie I was gonna take it but knew someone else would and wanted to give in the valley of elah some love.

my parents are very close friends with Saul Rubinek (the biographer in unforgiven) and I've had the pleasure of chatting with him about his life and movies several times such a nice interesting funny dude.

he also happens to be in one of my absolute all time fav films but I can't name it as it's undrafted.

This movie is hilarious. A bunch of Hollywood douchebags play even douchier versions of themselves as the world is coming to the end. There is something about Jay Baruchel's awkward persona that always makes him extremely entertaining for me. Danny McBride just kills it and Michael Cera in a bit role steals the show. This movie has about a billion celebrity cameos.

so far:
Blade Runner (sci fi earth)
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (western)
Body Heat (neo noir)
Strangers on a Train (Hitchcock/Kubrick)
This is the End (comedy last 10 years)
such an elite movie.
ppl that don't love that movie have no funny bone.

fwiw I won't be commenting on any animated selections til draft is over so as not to unduly influence future picks, so don't think cuz I ignored your pick I don't like it.

The Death of Stalin

Write-ups tomorrow. Schlitz's turn again.
I had trouble not picking Pale Flower, one of the best gambling flicks ever, especially for those of us who have had strung-out-psycho-gambling-junkie girlfriends, but came to the sad realization that there are actually people on a poker forum who have never had that experience. Plus, I've picked it in other drafts.

Death of Stalin was an out-and-out snipe.

He came really close to being in one of my picks, one that would have been elite by anybody's standards.

I’ll take Wall-E for animation. A masterpiece from start to finish and Pixar’s best.

So far:
Western: No Country for Old Men
Earth Sci-Fi: Mad Max Fury Road
Kurosawa: Ran
Hitchcock/Kubrick: North by Northwest
Animation: Wall-E

I wonder if we're talking about the same movie or if you're talking about a movie based on a book.

In an effort to be difficult, I won't pick the western that everyone saw coming. Instead, I'll take what is perhaps the greatest of the genre, and a Western that stars America's Mifune, Ernest Borgnine.

The Wild Bunch

Not only do we have extreme violence, we have it in slow motion. You've seen that before, you say? Not before The Wild Bunch, you didn't. And most importantly, all the stars are old guys! How cool is that? To answer, first imagine that you are an old guy, and you will realize, pretty cool.

Revolutionaries, train robberies, hookers, machine guns, torture, bad guys getting their just deserts, good guys getting their just deserts, **** getting blown up, the closing of the West--it's all there in beautiful Technicolor.

From the very first scene of children gleefully torturing a scorpion, you know what's coming--the movie that put Sam Peckinpaugh on the map.

Pick 5 - Neo-Noir - Drive

That image should evoke an emotion from you if you've seen this movie. This movie can be enjoyed on a number of different levels. There's a lot to enjoy on the surface but if you pick away at things you can get a lot more from it.

Nicolas Winding Refn makes deep and meaningful movies that don't always get the box office success or major awards recognition but this one does without having to sacrifice his artistic integrity. It's a lean and mean movie without an ounce of fat. Great score, great atmosphere, edge of the seat stuff.

Pick 6 - Billy Wilder Movie - Ace in the Hole

This movie is approaching 70 years old but it's still relevant today. Perhaps more so in the past few years.

Anything to maximise the effect of a story. Many movies have done their own version of this *cough cough* [REDACTED] *cough* but this one is better. Tragic in parts, but gripping throughout. I feel like this pick is especially poignant with the recent passing of Kirk Douglas.

Ever wonder where The Simpsons got their idea for the episode Radio Bart?

Wonder no more.

So a few round 8 picks can be made at any point now.

- Dominic can pick a western any time he wants
-mrbaseball can pick a Kubrick/Hitchcock movie whenever
- Phat Mack can pick a Sci-Fi that doesn't leave earth at his convenience

Just to be clear, you can pick them whenever you want, whether it's your turn or not. It will go down as your round 8 pick and it won't affect your round 6 or 7 picks.

I better lock up the last Billy Wilder flick I like: The Apartment.

It features the love of my life, Shirley MacLaine, along with Jack Lemmon and Fred MacMurray, and stars Sexual Harassment, always a crowd favorite.

Dragnet Girl
Paprika
The Killing
L.A. Confidential
The Wild Bunch
The Apartment

Pick whatever you want for whatever category you want, just don't be surprised when you come last in a category because you picked something that didn't fit.

Also all the people saying "my pick for xxxx is missing!" it's because you didn't fill it in and probably the only reason you have anything filled in is because somebody else did it for you.

Also we're at the point of skipping someone but it's difficult to spot who because of the partially filled in table...
