Yeah I really enjoyed it and personally, I can usually take or leave this kind of arty horror but it was a pleasant little surprise.

I personally wasn't crazy about it, but I do understand why it worked for others and would also recommend it because of this.
Btw, in Spring, the protagonist's beardy friend in the American scenes is also a director, Jeremy Gardner, who did a decent enough zombie film on a budget of a mere $6,000, by getting a loan of $600 from 10 friends/colleagues. I met him and the cast/crew at a festival a few years back and they're really fun blokes to have a beer with and jaw.

Another indy horror flick set in a vampire ravaged world.

Have also seen Afflicted, liked it a lot. It's cool you are going to a horror film fesroval, I've always wanted to go to one but for some reason never have.

A gang of machete-wielding home invaders attacks a family gathering, only to find that they've picked the wrong survivalist Aussie girl to **** with. The badass heroine is enormously likable and impossible not to cheer for, and yet at the same time the movie makes you question who the real psychopath is. There's a Cabin in the Woods-style meta element here that isn't quite explored enough, but still makes this a cut above your standard low-budget slasher flick.

Tonight I watched a new release on Netflix called Circle

The movie is about a group of 50 people that wake up standing in a circle, with an object in the center of the room that kills one of them every 2 minutes or so. It's more of a psychological type movie than a pure horror, but if you like puzzle-type movies like Cube, Saw 1, the Exam, Fermats Room, then you will enjoy this one.

Watched Bone Tomahawk - a new release horror/western with Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, David Arquette & Matthew Fox. PLEASANTLY surprised. A group of cannabalistic cave dwelling Indians kidnap a few town folk and Kurt Russell (the sheriff) puts together a hunting party to get them back. Pretty gruesome and I thought it didn't try to be too complex and just worked. Started off with a bang then slowed up just a bit but by third act was pedal to the floor. Really liked it 7/10.

Dark Was The Night was damn good until the end, where it went off the tracks a bit. Still worth a watch tho.

Inner Demons was original and well done. It's like an episode of Intervention had a baby with The Exorcist. New twist on the exorcism/possession genre. Really creepy and worth a watch imo.

I know that guy's username from another forum, he's quite knowledgeable. One of the films listed, Home Movie (2008) is pretty decent.
I recently saw another one listed there, The House With 100 Eyes (2003) about a suburbanite couple's attempts to make the perfect snuff film and it had its moments anyway.


Yeah, there's a horror festival on every year in my city since 2000, I've been going for the past 10. I used to get a full ticket but that can be kinda draining actually, so the past few years I just go to a few screenings. It's good fun though with a decent crowd and regulars who've been going for years usually get together afterwards for a drink and chat. I sometimes go to another one, in Edinburgh, the Dead by Dawn festival, which is pretty cool.
You should definitely check one out some time, even for just a few screenings, as usually everyone has a blast.

A pretty good one I caught was Goodnight Mommy (2014), about twin brothers who suspect their mother has been replaced by something evil in this really slow burning (to the point where you start getting a bit fidgety actually) Austrian horror, but redeemed by a pay off in the third act that's well worth it. Just a creepy and somewhat disturbing film that I'd definitely recommend.


Another one I had fun with was Howl (2015), in which a group of late night commuters are besieged by vicious and surprisingly creepy looking werewolves. It's undemanding and cliched, (it even has a "we're all gonna survive this together!" speech), but it's entertaining fun nonetheless.

Good call, I've seen it and really liked it, and director Jim Mickle is a guy to keep an eye out for, as all of his films so far have been decent. He recently did the non horror film Cold in July, which I quite liked.


I'd also second the rec for Bone Tomahawk (2015) which was made earlier as I just watched it the other day, really quite brutal in parts and very well directed, if somewhat slow burning and a bit long. But still a really good film.

The Living Want Me Dead (2010)
This is a really fun short horror film that had me in stitches when I first seen it. Anyone who wants a chuckle should take 23 minutes outa their time to give it a shot.

I watched this last night and thought it was pretty terrible, and I usually don't mind the fact that most possession movies are all the same. The effects on the camera when the demon took over and terrible jump scares ruined it for me

I don't remember much about it except it scaring the crap out of me. It seems to have amazing reviews so I'll definitely have to watch it again.

Avoid watching Creep: 2/5 stars, totally uninteresting jump-scare found-footage procedural.

Circle was okay, 3/5. The exposition at the beginning is super artificial, and a lot of the characters are weirdly unemotional when people next to them get killed, but the rest of the movie works. Worth a watch for fans of Cube or Twilight Zone.

Housebound

This is a funny but not scary movie. Recent movies have had to come up with unique ways to keep people inside haunted houses. Sinister had the haunting follow them to new houses, It follows had it.....well....follow, and this movie has the protagonist under house arrest. This is a home she left years before for reasons that get developed briefly later on in the film, and it becomes clear that she would almost prefer prison to living with her folks. Of course things start going bump in the night, and we discover a few red herrings before figuring out what is causing all the commotion. A few of the ways the plot progressed were a bit hackneyed, but I was too busy laughing to care all that much.

The main character is not your typical damsel in distress. She hears a creepy doll talk to her in the middle of the night. She immediately starts punching it in the face and throws it in the fire. A creaky door hinges open...she takes the door off it's hinges. These are just a couple of the nice little touches thrown in. The third act really packs a wallop, and had me both laughing and gasping at the same time. It got 97% on rotten tomatoes which seems a bit high, but I still recommend this movie as a horror comedy that knows exactly what it's doing, even if it sometimes stumbles along the way.

I really liked Housebound and was impressed at how and while I agree that it wasn't flat out scary, I did think it had some nice tension/suspense to go with the chuckles and found the balance surprisingly well done. Definitely one of the better horror views of last year and New Zealand seem to be currently on top of their game when it comes to comedy horror. Deathgasm (2015) is really funny and What We Do in the Shadows (2014) is hilarious. I put out trailers earlier itt and both are recommended if you haven't seen them yet.

Just read that a US remake of Martyrs is due out in less than 2 months... and it's PG13. Legit angry.

I finally got around to seeing Spring

It was enjoyable, though not totally believable. I did like how they actually developed both characters, I just didn't buy the decisions they made at the end of the film.



Pretty interesting premise, and I like how they explained the "science" behind her transformation but didn't focus on it, and just let the characters develop. I really liked his interaction with the farmer, and thought that their conversations really helped to juxtapose what was going on with the 2 lovers.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but Last Shift is #1 scary movie for me and it wasn't even close.
