This is a bad take. The Battery is fine.

But if you were expecting a true horror movie, it's not that. It's an indie movie about the relationship between the two main characters. Zombies are almost incidental.

Hush and It Follows are well worth watching.

If you like horror movies where a lot of vibe is based on a building, I'll put in a plug for The Orphanage and Session 9. Both trailers could have been better, but the movies are good, especially The Orphanage.

2011
Kill List (Cabin in the Woods, Attack the Block, Berberian Sound Studio, Scream 4)

2012
Maniac (Cockneys Vs Zombies, Woman in Black, Lords of Salem, Sightseers, Byzantium)

2013
Evil Dead (A Field in England, Rapture Palooza, I Spit on your Grave 2, Oculus, Only Lovers Left Alive)

2014
What We Do In The Shadows (Spring, Babadook, Under the Skin, It Follows, Creep, Unfriended)

2015
The Witch (He Never Died, Deathgasm, Bone Tomahawk, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Crimson Peak, Krampus, Pathwork)

good list....I didn't know you loved Mandy as much as me....but I'd have it at no. 2....It Follows is my best of the decade.

Also, have you seen any of Osgood Perkins' films? I am The Pretty Thing Who Lives In the house is spectacularly atmospheric, and The Blackcoats Daughter is just as good. His new one is Gretel & Hansel.

No I haven't. I worked through a long list and Pretty Thing was on it, but didn't get time to get to the bottom of my list of what to watch. I know it's on Netflix and will get to it. I've never even heard of The Blackcoat's Daughter.

I also have to do a worst 3, which would be Mother!, Dracula 3D, and Nightmare on Elm Street remake

Not really sure what I am missing on Mandy. I love horror films but I could not make it past the first 10? minutes I think when I tried to watch it. I guess I need to try again

Spent some time making my list.

1st / 2nd

2010 - I Saw the Devil / Let Me In
2011 - Cabin in the Woods / You're Next
2012 - Sinister / Woman in Black
2013 - Coherence / The Conjuring
2014 - In Follows / The Babadook
2015 - The Witch / The Invitation
2016 - Train to Busan / Split
2017 - Get Out / IT
2018 - A Quiet Place / Hereditary
2019 - The Lighthouse / Midsommar

Overall Decade:
1. It Follows
2. Get Out
3. A Quiet Place

2012 seems to have been noticeably awful for horror movies. Sinister wouldn't have made my top 5 in some years (like in 2019 for example)

Black Swan was a horror movie?? I never saw it, but the clips sure didn't look like one.
I enjoyed What We Do In The Shadows, but it was definitely not a horror movie.

Horror is a very elastic genre, and somewhat subjective. A movie with vampires and guys vomiting blood everywhere is a horror movie, in my view. I accept it might not be, in your view.

DaFoe going off in the Lighthouse

For me, a movie has to at least try to be a little bit scary to be considered a horror movie. I am curious about Black Swan now though.

Just in case anyone else is wondering what we're talking about, while What We Do In The Shadows movie is about vampires, it's a comedy spoof, and not really even a spoof of a horror movie. It's a phony documentary about vampires. The movie it reminds me most of is This Is Spinal Tap, which is a comedy spoof documentary about a rock band.

ok that's fair. Black Swan is the child of giallo, and a very good giallo/psychodrama too. It's a great movie. We did a whole thread about it one time, I'll try and find the link. It might be a bit spoilery tho

DB, what did you think of Suspiria? I’ve seen it twice and it’s high on my best of the decade list

Very very solid. I like the original better, and there's a character in the 3rd act that looks goofy and is distractingly so, but the whole tying of the magic act to dance/movement, and the actual dance/movement, and the interesting way it has developed its own version of its mythology... yeah, it's damn good.

It would have been my number one for 2018 if Mandy hadn't have taken it.

yeah, it's a fascinating movie....and I loved how it just WENT THERE in the last act.

Yeah I dug that, but the look and feel of THAT character in act 3 was some sort of call back to 80s SFX, in a bad way..... didn't wreck the movie though, was pretty mesmeric despite that character.

Would love to see some more 3 mothers by the same team tho.

It felt like a better version of Lords of Salem to me (and I like Lords of Salem)

If anyone wants to go see the upcoming movie Invisible Man, DO NOT watch the online trailer! It gives away way too much of the film. I got a pass for a free preview showing next week, but now wondering if it is worth my going to it after the trailer ruined it for me. All the comments on youtube are about how it gave away too much.
