Thanks guys, I may check it out. TDK, your Halloween review link isn't working for me.

LOL at nitting about his ability to drive.

Watched The Exorcist (directors cut) for the umpteenth time last night. Another complete masterpiece iyam. So damn well done.

Happy Halloween, all!

What gets me is it's not just he plot hole but it's that the movie goes out of its way to highlight the problem by having a character point it out. And I love it! Why not have a movie that pokes a little fun at itself and tells the audience to just chill out and have fun with a goofy slasher film that isn't always going to make sense.

The Apostle looks like lots of torture....I don't like torture

I went into the Ritual with no background on it and the turn it took was not what I was expecting at all. Good movie.

I made a thread for Haunting of Hill House since its a TV show - https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1.../#post54441400

Really good show so far IMO. I'm on episode 5. Hopefully this paves the way for me TV series horror shows.

Apostle was ok but not as good as Ritual.

Apostle 6/10
Ritual 7.25/10

Just watched The First Purge. Very disappointing; I liked all of the earlier installments quite a bit, but this one was just boring. Almost didn't finish watching.

Agree. First hour of Apostle (2018) was very good, then it slowly dismembers itself. Grade C+.

Had the same experience. Liked all the other Purge films, they aren't amazing but were worth watching at least. The First Purge was 100% awful.

I could never get past the absolutely idiot main concept of the Purge movies. It's just so. so bad.

It did seem quite unbelievable when the first film came out. But then at some point in the last few years, became more of a possibility...

I mean seriously, it's not very believable, but neither are horror movies about aliens, or zombies, or ghosts. Not sure why else you think the concept would be "so bad". I think it's an interesting idea; more so than some other dystopian future films I've seen.

that's a false equivalency. Supernatural beings or aliens are mythical stories and have been around forever. Plus, the rules they "live" by usually make some kind of internal sense. The concept of the Purge does not make a lick of sense. At all. Not even a little bit. The conceit that people will rape and murder one another because it's suddenly legal for one day, and that will cause them NOT to rape and murder for the rest of the year, is stupid stupid stupid.

It's like a child thought up the concept. It does not hold up to even 10 seconds of debate.

You're correct that the idea wouldn't work in those ways, and it doesn't work in the films either. Basically it is supposed to be a sham idea that the elite ruling class makes up to help themselves in other ways, including staying in power, and they cheat to make it "work".

Seriously, you might want to at least try watching the original film, especially if you like Ethan Hawke. It takes place almost totally inside one house and is really a family surviving a horrible crisis film, akin to A Quiet Place.

What if you stab someone during the purge but they die the next day?

The Rick and Morty episode "Look who's purging now" pretty much covers the movies and the acting is better. I'd recommend spending 30 minutes on the cartoon instead of hours on the lousy movies.
