Drag Me to Hell

Just finished watching [REC], not super impressed. Aside from the "found footage" angle, there's not much to distinguish it from a generic low-budget zombie flick.

The Orphanage was really great. I think it got overlooked because it's a foreign language film. def give it it a shot if you want an old-school, atmospheric horror film.

All of this plus it's an Eli Roth film so it should be really over the top!

Watched "It Follows" tonight. Good, not great flick. It's upper tier compared to most modern horror films.

I loved You're Next, also thought the new Evil Dead was great

I thought You're Next was awful. It was just a very unbelievable and totally unoriginal slasher movie. The "you're next" concept that I thought they were going to work into the mechanics of the movie to make things more original and interesting was non-existent. In fact, I don't know what "you're next" had to do with anything in the film. The only redeeming part of the movie imo was the blender incident, but only for lols.

Hopefully going to see It Follows in a few weeks at a Cinema-In-The-Park. Should be awesome to have the added atmosphere of being in the outdoors at night.

Also really looking forward to the release - finally, it's been pushed back several times - of Eli Roth's The Green Inferno:

Yeah I kinda get that, but it's just like, so what? I just didn't find anything original or clever in the film.

I'm not too good at reviews but I watch quite a lot of horror films so I'll try and post up some mini reviews of the modern horror I've watched recently.


The Dead

I'm generally not a fan of zombie movies, mostly because they tend to be made as out and out action films which aren't my bag. The Dead is presented more like a slow paced epic western movie and it was more intense and realistic for that. The film follows one man's journey through a zombie ridden landscape from the African coast to apparent safety at a camp inland after his escape plane crashes shortly after take-off. There are of course action scenes every time the zombies are encountered, but the minimal dramatisation of these keeps the believability level high and despite the slow pace of the film, the intensity continues throughout the entire film.

An intense, realistic zombie flick with an epic feel. 8/10.

Worth a viewing when you want something slow paced but engaging.

DeadGirl was a really interesting take on the zombie genre. It goes to really dark places... horny teenage boys find a zombie woman who is strapped down naked... yeah it goes into the dark side of that.

It's usually rated pretty low, but there's some genuine artistry and talent gone into this, and I think the score isn't because it's bad, it's because it's quite shocking from a moral/ethical/human behaviour standpoint. It's got the grime and icckiness of a zombie version of I Spit on your Grave.


Also, has the Maniac Remake been mentioned yet?

How anyone can look forward to an Eli Roth film is beyond me.

Yeah agree with this, although it didn't help that I saw it at the cinema and the audience was mainly dumbass 14 year olds who were just ****ing around the whole time.

Once again a potentially great concept has been turned into a dumbed down, cliched bit of screen fluff for aforementioned dumbass 14 year olds. The whole movie was just full of plot holes and cliches, with one or two creepy parts, but nothing to hold your interest for more than a few moments.

I was gonna try and write a bunch of reviews for this thread but I realised it's harder than it sounds if you're trying to review something you watched even a few months ago, never mind years. All I could come up with for a lot of flims was "crap, don't watch" or "great, watch". Or what is more common for horror films... "great film, until the ending". On that note, what horror films have people watched where the ending really stands up to the rest of the film? Off the top of my head, the only one that comes straight to my mind is Blair Witch. Creepy as hell, and in fitting with the rest of the film leaves you wondering what the **** happened in those woods.

It was dumb but you should have expected that going in. You really think a dead girl hacking into facebook chat to haunt her enemies is a great concept?

Everything modern can be twisted into a horror movie, that doesn't make it a great concept. The ring did it well, but there have been a bunch of attempts at that since that just haven't panned out. What should we expect next? Haunted GPS? Pandora predicting your death? iPhone vs Android (think Godzilla vs Mothra)?

The end of Sinister really made me happy, imo the movie was good but the ending made it one of the better horror movies I've seen in a while.

Eli Roth movies can seem ridiculous at times with gore being the main component but I think his movies are definitely good in there own right, Knock Knock and Green Inferno both look good, I want to see The Stranger and if you haven't checked it out Aftershock is decent. Plus he introduced us to Lorenza Izzo

the score is pure killer.
highly recommended when you r into 80s synth-stuff.


the houses october built had a great premise. what a surprise, the ending is pretty meh (modern-day-movie-problem), but the movie has some great mindfxxx moments. also im really easily convinced by found-footage movies.

The Tunnel - is that the one under Paris with the monster that chases them? If so, this is actually one of the better, more believable found footage movies.

I wish they would continue the scream movies, anyone see the new mtv scream show? it looks cool but idk why they would change the mask, maybe it has to do with copyright issues idk.

Sleep Tight is really good.
