Scary?nah

I think it is worth a rewatch knowing the information revealed ahead of time.
The story can be sort of confusing.

Raw freaking rules. Love that film from beginning to end. Pairs nicely with Inside.

Finally got around to Bird Box yesterday. I thought it was quite effective and interesting. Not a huge Bullock fan so was expecting her performance to ruin the film, but found her to be good in this role. Very interesting concept as well; as an aside, loved Malcovich's role/character.

Spoiler:
One thing I didn't get though was that it seemed to me that a sound could be heard prior to the image coming into view. Couldn't you simply have your blind fold around your neck and then put it on if you heard that "whoosh" noise?

Solid movie. 7.5/10

Not a huge fan of horror movies but definitely am going to see this, Pet Sematary. Apparently from those that have first viewing rights, it's very good.

I liked Bird Box. It was like SPEED, but the mph was the blindfold

Watched The Wailing over the weekend. Very interesting and effective film despite a few noticeable oddities. Another somewhat slow burn movie (my favorite kind) that leaves you guessing until the end. Very good build up and some genuinely upsetting scenes/imagery. Would highly recommend.

Us was good but not great. I was going in expecting the same caliber as Get Out and my expectations were not met. Still enjoyed it though. As with Get Out, there are tons of easter eggs and nods to other horror films throughout, and the film has a lot of comedic elements.

The Wailing was actually the best Horror of 2016 for me, just beating Train to Busan.

Recently watched Hereditary & thought it was great overall an effective slow burn where everything came together nicely.

Yeah, I didn't care for The Wailing or Hereditary, but seems like I'm the minority.

Actually I can totally understand why either film wouldn't work for some & tbh I wasn't too impressed with first half of Hereditary but ended up really liking it as again everything came together nicely for me, but Hereditary in particular appears to be a polarizing film. Both films had me thinking about them after the credits rolled though & not many Horrors do that for me so both really worked for me but again I can understand others being non plussed

Hereditary, while having some interesting set-pieces, was a complete mess

I didn't find it messy at all & liked its low key approach.

A few more I saw recently, perhaps not 100% horror genre, but with some elements:

The Killing of a Sacred Deer: Found this to be a very good suspense type movie with a few truly shocking moments in it. Not a huge fan of the director's style of most dialogue being unemotional regardless of the content. Makes it very difficult to become emotionally attached to anyone which makes empathy for plight almost impossible. I was not aware of the Greek mythos of this movie before seeing it. However, despite all of the above, I found the filming to be outstanding (particularly angles and scenes where just one wide shot was used). Overall, I would say 6.5-10.

The girl with all the gifts: I am not a huge fan of this particular genre (wont reveal in case anyone wants to be surprised), but this film was unique and the first 30 minutes or so are incredible. Very interesting plot line, but acting was only so so in my opinion and there are a few very large plot flaws that are hard to accept. Worth 90 minutes in a pinch though...6 out of 10.

I watched The Headhunter.

Its kind of a fantasy medieval thing with some horror type suspense thrown into
the back end.

Low budget and a whole lot less action than you might think there would be.
There are multiple characters but it plays like a one man movie.
I liked it because it was fairly short at 72min and I think the filming was interesting and the landscape was nice.

I can see how some people would get bored as there are stretches where there is an illusion of action but not much happens.

Pet Sematary 2019 was mostly sucky, with the first 2 acts being plot-driven rote stuff (which is terrible for this particular story, which should be strongly character driven), but it got better in last act.

The 80s version did it better

5/10

I was really excited to see this film as Pet Sematary was the first horror book I ever remember reading back when I was about 13 so I have an affinity with it. Then I realised we're in 2019 and Hollywood sucks so it was probably going to just be a **** remake for the masses and decided not to bother seeing it to avoid the disappointment.

Watched The Silence on Netflix. It's pretty much an identical setup to A Quiet Place, but this one is actually affiliated with the novel of the same name (still not sure how A Quiet Place got away with basically stealing the entire premise and plot). The lower budget appealed to me more and it was more of a slow burn than A Quiet Place, but I just felt they didn't delve deep enough into any part of the movie enough, didn't build the tension or explore the more interesting parts of the plot enough, and the ending came too suddenly. I feel it would have worked sooo much better as a series. 6.5/10

Also saw The Battery on Shudder. It's a low-budget zombie movie following two survivors who are kinda friends who don't really like each other but are forced to stick together. I was a bit distracted during the film so wasn't paying it full attention, but it seemed dull as hell, completely uninteresting, and I turned it off before the end. 2/10 (would be a 1 but I wasn't watching it fully so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt).

Totally agree. I saw it today and was the only one in the theater. Yes, it did get better at the end with some twists but for the most part for all the hype was disappointing.

"The Perfection" popped up on my Netflix feed and I watched it without knowing anything other than what the trailer showed. Wow, this one definitely surprised me! Cheesy dialogue but if you can get passed that it's def worth a watch, at least relative to what you can find on Netflix. Yeah this isn't a super glowing review by any means, but what else are ya gonna watch?

MA was interesting from a standpoint of seeing Octavia Spencer as a psycho. sadly, I can't shake the slight overall feeling of disappointment a day later from this one.

Just watched the Perfection, went in totally cold and that is probably a good thing.
If someone had told me more it would have spoiled things.

WEak acting and agree with JOsh about cheesy dialogue
BUT I will have to say that it is original enough and interesting enough
to keep my attention through out.

Rated satisfied.

SPecial viewing tip:
If you dont watch this movie I would suggest at least reading a quick spoiler type review/synopsis (stop reading before the final reveal) and then watch the last 2 minutes or so.

Us (2019)

Some nice ideas but execution was just okay &
Spoiler:
the twist didn't really make logical sense overall for me, even if I kinda seen it coming anyway & seemed tacked on just for the sake of it

Wasn't terrible & I didn't mind it overall but I preferred Get Out

Mom and Dad (2017)
Entertaining & rather nutty Horror where a form of mass hysteria causes parents to murder their kids. Worth seeing for Nic Cage alone who's in full blown "I'm Castor Troy WOOOOH!" OTT mode.
