I started to post this under the Celebrity Deaths thread, but I'm not sure Dieter Laser qualifies as a celebrity, but he has a place in horror movie history:

Dieter Laser died on February 29, 2020. He starred as a demented doctor who surgically connected series of humans by hooking them up mouth-to-anus in The Human Centipede and a follow-up film.

Oh man sad news he was effectively creepy in first THC.(Less said about part III the better imo)

Lockdown Horror views so far:

Bliss
An unlikable artist develops creative block and tries to cure it by doing an unholy amount of drugs causing a downward and decidedly bloody hallucinogenic spiral. Slightly muddled plotwise it's nonetheless trippy enough to keep your attention and I liked it overall.

VFW
A group of crusty veterans led by a badass Stephen Lang are besieged in their bar by an army of drug fiends in this undemanding and atrociously lit but overall enjoyable Assault on Precinct 13 style throwback flick from the director of Bliss. Has a great cast too with William Saddler David Patrick Kelly Martin Kove and George Wendt all popping up as well as Fred the Hammer Williamson who looks amazing at 82.

The Hunt
Entertaining little film with a nicely unpredictable first half in which a bunch of liberals hunt conservatives to the death for sport.

The Invisible Man
Wasn't as blown away by this as some reviews would indicate but I found it solidly engaging anyway with a really decent performance from Elizabeth Moss

In a facebook group I'm on, someone suggested Horror Movie Haikus, and it's kind of fun. Here's my best effort

Green vomit pours forth,
'your mother knits socks in hell',
Or something like that

Demonte Colony 2015 (youtube full movie for free, in Hindi so use CC button for english subtitles). Long, lively ghost story about a real house in Chennai, India thought to be haunted. Four young guys visit the house out of boredom and get more excitement than they ever wanted. Not bloody, but scary. Excellent soundtrack. Lots of cool effects. To satisfy Indian audiences it even has a snappy musical dance number in the first half. Not many horror pics like that, ha ha. Gives you a look at a different culture. Great to watch with other people. Crazy as it is, Grade A .

Caught Fantasy Island. Not a great flick, but surprised everyone hated it so much!

Maybe I just went into thinking it would be God awful.

For me American Werewolf is the perfect horror comedy as the funny bits are funny yet the scary bits genuinely scary and this seems very hard to pull off successfully. Most horror comedies seem to emphasise the comedic elements more, whereas in AAWIL the blend of both is seamless.

Good list btw although I would have included Braindead/Dead Alive, The Frighteners and Bad Taste. I'd also recommend The Revenant (2009) Witching & Bitching (2011) and The Day of the Beast, all of which are really good Horror comedies.

You're dead right about AWIL, but I just think my 2 and 1 are better overall movies. No arguments on your assertions tho

recently seen:

Stopmotion (2023): 6/10

Late Night with the Devil (2023): 6/10

does anyone care about these kinds of movies anymore to discuss more in depth or just let it die?

I won't spoiler anything about the movie other than I wanted to let anyone know what they're getting into if they see this:

the beginning is an extended mocumentary about the talk show host and the rest of the movie is found footage of his show's last telecast. the show re-broadcast is done in real time. commercials are replaced by behind the scenes stuff.

also of note: this is an Aussie production other than the talk show host is an American actor. the talk show host is apparently based on a 1970s talk show host in Aussieland even though, in the movie, he is shown as a competitor to Johnny Carson.

it's playing in local theaters here this weekend. check your listings if u want to see it in theaters where u live.
