I live in a very safe area

but recently, prolly a freaked out meth head tried to break into a condo above our parking garage by pulling a heavy trashcan over to step up onto and then trying to climb up on to the balcony of the unit by a drainpipe - if the balcony sliding door window was unlocked he could have easily gotten in - if it was locked, those locks are pretty easy to break. the drainpipe broke and he didn't get in - the unit is owned by a young woman living alone

I've never owned a gun but because of this I am considering buying one

it's not very likely to happen to me because I'm high up where it's much more difficult to break into

if a freak were ever to break into my unit I would have no problem taking care of business

after the incident I called the Police and they came and the guy who looked like he'd rather be somewhere else told me there was nothing he could actually do because the freak didn't actually break in - he said there's no such crime as an attempted break in

I don't know if that's true - I think the cop was just lazy - we have cameras and he refused to take the Manager's # to contact her

it seems like he should have done something

It's true OP... the police are NOT going to do anything even if you get them on video. They need to catch them during the furtherance of a crime. A gun is your friend.... but I can also be your worst enemy.

I have something I have to do and I have to drive very early - around 6 a.m. and it's pitch black outside

it's a busy suburb that is really more like a small city and there are many people out walking - usually to a bus stop or to work after getting off of a bus

a lot of these people are wearing black or very dark clothing

it's almost impossible to see them

and if I hit one of these fools and they're hurt badly I'm going to jail

it's crazy
