Of course it's a love song, which explains the over 400 cover versions. Great album, too, Time Out of Mind. And I sang it with a piano player in a bar in Newport one night in the style of Bryan Ferry. I probably sounded better than Dylan.

Hard not to sound better than Dylan I cannot sing , but even if I was trying to sing baldly I could not do a worse job than he does. On the other hand Bryan Ferry is a pretentious cock but he sings like two angels stuck together

I have never understood the god-like worship of Bob Dylan. I mean, I understand why he's important...but except for Like A Rolling Stone or maybe Knockin' On Heaven's door or Shelter From the Storm or Tangled Up In Blue or A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall....

Time Out of Mind is a great album. Old Bob Zimmerman has written many a great song: but so have many, many others, all around the world. And Hero worship is for the silly.

I agree. But we're old men, Zeno, and perhaps a bit jaded. Maybe the young need a little hero worship.

It's sort of like when people say a book, a movie, a poem, or a work of art changed their life. Maybe the accumulation of those things do, but it's never one thing really.

I agree that he is an important part of rock music history, but maybe he could have tried not singing like a broken dishwasher with a particularly annoying nasal inflection? If you are a musical genius this should not be difficult.

Although there seems to be some disagreement about his awful and irritating vocals , I think that all will agree that the line “In the jingle jangle morning “ was originally a placeholder until he could come up with some proper words.
