I've been working. It kinda sucks. Looking forward to retirement, I think. But until then, I correct papers and attempt to impart some knowledge. It's probably hopeless.

zeno, you fly all the way over there to see a packed crowd of umbrellas and rain coats.
02-14-2019 , 08:09 PM
john you should have gone to italy with your buddy and watched the umbrella parade from the two foot wide veranda.

In case anyone needs a reminder: it is Friday and drinking is not optional.

hey you are retired old man. you dont have to pay attention to days of the week anymore. get with the program.

I'm helping out my fellow man with important reminders. Think of me as the Lounge Guru.

Plus, a certain amount of Loungers need prodding to keep them on the straight and narrow path of important life decisions.

Up coming within the next few weeks: Trip Report. I have already chosen the title:

Sicily: The Best ****hole in Italy.

It's Friday. I'm not drinking. But I have engagements tomorrow and Sunday, both of which may require alcohol consumption, that is if it's okay to drink at brunch, a word I don't care for unless someone invites me to brunch.

Speaking of words I don't care for, "invite" used as a noun is terrible. Send me an invitation please.
02-15-2019 , 08:05 PM
Probably because there's no such thing as brunch.
02-16-2019 , 03:20 AM
and you have tea. but they eat stuff at tea.
02-16-2019 , 04:00 AM
"Oh, I'm starving, I need breakfast!"

One, you aren't starving. Two, you aren't breaking a fast. A fast is more than 6 hours of not eating.

There is no such thing as breakfast. If brunch is a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch, and one doesn't exist, it's obvious that brunch can't exist either.

you guys are starting to irritate me with that crap. im going nuts. i hate proper english.
02-16-2019 , 09:15 AM
**** the English police, and Ray said it with authority
02-16-2019 , 09:25 AM
The more important point, which you all ignored, was my failure to drink on Friday. I plan on correcting that oversight this evening.

Student wrote in a response to Chaplin's City Lights: "When a man sees the woman of his dreams, there's very little he will do to get her."

I told him he was supposed to be writing about the film, not my life.

Wow, settle down, guys.

Breakfast never meant to break a long fast, or break-fast. it always referred to the first meal of the day.

In fact, breakfast as a noun came after the verb forms, breakfasted (to have eaten or served the first daily meal) and breakfasting (eating or serving the first daily meal).

Today, it just means "bacon and eggs" or whatever people eat in the morning, regardless of the time of day. In more puritanical days (the 1980s)... it wasn't okay to eat bacon and eggs past 10, but some Type As already woke at 4am and was ready to chow on burgers at exactly 10 while Type Bs were just barely waking up and drinking coffee.

Brunch was just a late breakfast or early lunch (or supper or dinner, if you like talking strange). If you are creative, you could have a Type A eating a burger and Type B eating a bowl of cereal at a cafe, sitting at the same table.

I'm really glad the whole "stop serving breakfast at 10am" thing is going the way of the dodo. I'm also glad that I don't have to figure out what time of day people mean when they say supper or dinner. Both those words are awful and I'm glad everyone just says lunch now. I don't know what the correct word should be for night time eating, but it shouldn't be supper or dinner.

Advantage 6 of being a hermit: eating whenever the **** you want and not explaining.

i eat breakfast whenever i want as my first meal. and dinner around 5. i used to eat supper but after moving out west 50 years ago its dinner. none of that brunch crap or tea. geez.

and if it wasnt for john we wouldnt have this proper sentence and english bull. it seems he has lulled dave into falling for his stuff. i cant wait till he retires and becomes a proper person.

No breakfast for me.

I’ve been telling myself that I must quit by the time I’m 40 because of the dramatic increase in health risks going into middle age. I turned 39 a few weeks ago.

Geez. I only point out the flaws in my colleagues' grammar. I don't attack anyone here.

Believe me, Ray, I want to retire and become a normal person, but there's still trouble to cause and people to offend. I will let you know if I irritate anyone tonight. I doubt it, though, because they all love me. Okay, they tolerate me. Barely.

Youngster.

If you don’t have anything to offer (money nor assets) but you’re the one people call when they need help (your skills), you’re likely appreciated much more than you may think. A little elbow grease goes a long way among friends and relatives.

This is probably true no matter what those that dislike you say about you.

Me and Maile at the Waldorf for high tea...I've never been to high tea before...I liked it, especially because we got our own tea pots.

Try vaping. I know it has a rep for "not being like the real thing," but that's so 5 years ago. The stuff that's out today is definitely powerful enough for smokers.
