Made a trip to Billings yesterday and got some time in at the poker table. 5 1/2 hours to be exact. Played at the Queen of Hearts Cardroom inside the Seedy downtown Billings Crystal Lounge. They have a 3/6 LHE game that runs every day which is unusual for Montana.
I ended up + $2. I was actually pretty happy with that considering most of the afternoon hours were very short handed and slow, the evening turning into the usual Montana donkfest and then at one point ending up literally down to the felt.
(Note, I hate doing hand histories because I always **** them up. So, this is as cloase as I can remember this one hand and if there is something that does not make sense just ignore it and realize this is only close to the actual hand)
I was down to about $35 and was pulling out $50 to replenish my small stakes stack in case I run into a monster but am slow and the cards are in the air before I can complete the transaction. No problem, a guy two places to my right is straddling and unless I have something worth playing I am folding anyways. I look down and see AA.
Guy to my right calls the straddle, I raise the straddle, two people call my raise and the next guy reraises, the next guy raises again to cap it, straddler has to call (of course), every one, obviously including me, calls.
Flop comes something like K 10 crap with two clubs. First guy checks to me and I bet. Call, call, call, raise, re-raise, call, fold, I cap it a few folders now and a few callers still and I think I am still good but am wondering if I am getting myself into trouble.
Turn comes Jc. Crap, three to a flush three to a straight and I do not have a club! I decide I better slow down now since my aces are not looking as good. I check, couple more checkers, bet, raise, call and I am now stubborn enough to not want o get rid of these Aces so I reluctantly call and there are a couple of more callers. I figure I am now completely screwed but almost out of chips so **** it!
River brings another Ace! I have the set but it also makes any queen good for the straight and there are still 3 clubs out there, so I just check it. It checks around to the guy who raised the turn and he, of course, bets. Original straddler now folds, I wonder if I am just kissing $6 away but the pot is obviously too big to fold. I look at the guy who bet (who is a pretty good player FWIW) and he looks straight at me and just says "it just isn't right, is it". I figure he is no dummy. He knows I have aces and he knows he has me beat. I call a few folds to one other guy still in the hand and he thinks about it awhile (making me think I am actually in third place here) and folds. I look at the other guy and say, "is it a queen or the flush that beats me". He says neither and he turns over Kings, for a flopped set of kings. I happily, now, turn over the aces and drag a really nice pot!
