My semester is over, too.

Now I have to figure out where to live, as no poker and no film/TV work the last three months means I'm broke and can't afford where I've lived for the past 10 years. Probably move in with my GF, but that's going to take a while to get her house cleared out of stuff so I can move in.

This virus is fun.

Well, Dom, there's worse options.
05-18-2020 , 08:30 PM
I don't know....moving in together because of financial reasons is usually not a great idea....
05-18-2020 , 08:41 PM
I know, but as long as you can live with it, she will too I'm sure. Besides, these are unusual circumstances. And I'm sure it will be a good thing for both of you. It does kinda suck being alone these days.
05-18-2020 , 08:42 PM
this way you get to find out where its at. and how the future will work.
good luck on it.

I always thought you college guys made big bucks and had your pay spread over 12 months. If not is there some sort of unemployment program?

Anyways from what I've seen you two seem very happy together so maybe the time is ripe to move in together and live your lives out as a happy couple.

I'm not an actual academic, like John....I'm an adjunct, or part-time, instructor. It doesn't pay enough to be a "full-time," even when I'm teaching 4 classes a semester.

So poker and the occasional film/TV jobs complete my income.

Amazing how much I have relied on poker the last 15 years....

And John, yes, I know it's better than being alone! But both me and my GF are loners and enjoy our own space....so this is going to be interesting!

Dom, I'm a bit of a loner myself, which has made things interesting in the past. So there's always a trade off.

I do get paid for twelve months. A full time faculty gig is a nice little sinecure.

Well you're going to need a man cave if that's possible.

And as for your poker, I did bluff you out of a big hi/low spilt pot once even though you were holding
8 6 5 3 1. Jdalla was in and had the high hand. He was one of these young pros you see around here time-to-time. Nice kid.

???

I have no memory of this, or that we've ever actually met! Where was it? Was it one of the crazy 2+2 parties? I don't play anything other than NLH normally.

Don't feel bad, I forget everyone I've ever met one or two times lol

I used the fed handout to purchase another Handgun. So yes, it is real and go for it; whether state or fed or under the table funds. We all need more “free” money!

It's not free.

speaking from canada.

you get 600 a week.
05-19-2020 , 10:01 PM
I have no idea why anybody would want to give me 600 a week, but in the unlikely event it actually shows up, I'll take it.

Excellent; we all need the ammo, booze, rib-eye steaks, reefer (now legal in many states), and an upgrade to our fishing gear. I stocked up on my single malt whiskey with the leftover Fed money after my handgun purchase. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

I looked it up....do I need to be only a 1099/subcontractor, or can I still file for Pandemic unemployment assistance if my part-time teaching job gives me benefits (but is ending this week)?

I've tried, but because I have worked for a college in the last two years, it seems I'm not eligible...but I should be eligible for regular unemployment...will file tomorrow.

Never occurred to me to file for unemployment lol

Mork and Mindy was a fine show, Mindy is a more than fine woman
05-20-2020 , 08:32 AM
Dom, you might be eligible for unemployment because you received benefits, so you were full time during the academic year.

The movie cliches that should be retired tread seem to have vanished so I will add this here. Cops are chasing the villains when they come to a fork in the road. They say “We have lost them” and stop the chase. If they chose a random direction they would have a 50% chance of being on the right track
