Yeah, I got rid of my personal phone 4 years ago. I still have some work phones, though. I'll probably ditch those in the next year, but I'll have to find a way to maintain a phone number because I think all my finances may collapse without one. I had switched everything over to my google phone number 4 years ago, but a few months later google wanted my *real* number and it all went haywire.

I haven't looked into it in a while, but I don't really want a phone, but things like airline reservations can be difficult without one.

i lived for a long time without a phone. you can get phone cards. i dont know anymore though. or one of those walmart ones that give you 1000 minutes for 100 dollars a year. and most newer phones allow internet calling and texting through wi fi. i use that alot as i dont get cell service at two of my places.

but you can do almost all financials online. i do. or drive up banking.
i dont make but a couple calls a week and they arent required.
05-04-2020 , 12:50 PM
Hey, Ray, you want my phone number? You know, to give your calls a purpose.
05-04-2020 , 01:47 PM
no!!! then zeno will want to have phone calls with me. and heaven forbid schlitzy might want in on the action.

and if i called you it would only be on purpose not by accident.

I'm an old man. I was summoned to jury duty a few years ago. If you've never been to jury duty, they select a mob of prospective jurors for each case and then the lawyers question them. The lawyers are looking for people they can bend towards their point of view.

This was a drug case, and I surmised later that the DA was looking for people who would buy off on his theory that owning multiple cell phones was an indicator that someone was a drug dealer.

So the DA gives me a "I'm gracious to old people" smile and says something like, You know, a lot of the kids these days have these new cell phones and smartphones, but I know a lot of people of your generation don't use them. Have you ever used a cell phone?

Me: Sure.

Do you own a cell phone?

Me: Yup.

Tell me Mr. Mack, how many cell phones do you think it would be normal for a person to carry around with him?

Me: However many he needed.

??? Well, how many do you have, Mr. Mack?

Me: Let's see. I have this flip phone because elderly people in my family refuse to text, so my sister gave it to me from her family plan. (I grab my backpack.) And this is my personal phone. And this is my business phone for Japan, Taiwan and Korea. And this is my business phone for China and just about every place else in the world. So that's four. Oh, and they just sent me these two. My software team ports apps to smartphones, so I have to have phones that run the latest versions of iOS and Android for testing. So I guess six.

DA: OK, Mr. Mack, you can put those up now.

I didn't get chosen.

I still have three phones, but have only used one over the last two months. I do everything online now. I'm going to make another push this summer to go phone-free. I hate them now more than ever. I'll post updates if I run into any snags. The only problem I see right now is if I were to start playing poker again. I play mainly backroom games and I'd need a phone to find out who was playing where.

I gotta ask my mom again about the jury she was on years ago. Recall she was the only one that wouldn't vote to convict or harshly sentence the defendant, owing to his background.

I have a smart phone but I hate smart phones. I use it for phone calls (90+%), texting (5%) and google maps while driving somewhere new (5%). I have no other use for it and hate the online type functions because my fingers/thumbs too fat and uncoordinated and my old eyes too hard to see with. If I can't do internet on a 24" monitor I just don't do it.

i love mine as i have things i want to know pop into my head, and i can google them quickly just by voice. thats my main use for a phone and driving to places just by asking.
i can cheat and use my translator to understand foreigners talking.
surf the web.
i read many newspapers each day on the phone when i am doing nothing.
and listen to broadcasts from all over.

I haven't been to a track and field meet since 1965. Perhaps that's a mistake.

Phone is a necessity. Mostly use for texting, Android Auto for directions and Amazon Music, Spotify, and Pandora to listen to NPR podcasts while driving, email, and a phone call every so often.

I can't see five feet in front of me, but I read a phone easily with my glasses off.

Yes, you are.

I find that there's few women under 50 that hold any appeal for me.

I guess I'm not a dirty old man.

Also, I'm continually surprised that women over 50 think they don't really appeal to men of any age. And those over 60 think they are invisible for some reason.

That's a shame.

As part of my campaign to cheer up people by laughing at the misfortune of others.

About a month ago I came down with a bad case of tonsillitis. I should have gone to hospital but being slightly spooked by the virus I did not go.This resulted in me being unable to consume anything but very small sips of water for two weeks. I ended up weak and delirious. Worse was to come.
After two weeks I was able to start eating again. I did not have much of an appetite so I concentrated on eating high calorie dense food. This resulted in the most agonising bout of constipation that I have ever experienced.
I went to the hospital, the admissions process was rather prolonged; various people kept asking me to “Please take a seat “ .. “Rather stand, thanks”
Eventually admitted and after a few tests (“I will be inserting a gloved finger up your rectum”) I was given an enema, simultaneously the least dignified and most reliving experience of my life.

you dont need to go to a doctor for an enema.

and for tonsilitus anti biotics for in case its bacteria is a must so you dont die or have severe infections.
or if its a virus caused then it should go away in a week by itself.

and in most cases you can find antibiotics without seeing a doctor.

but for big plumbing problems get schlitzy to take a look.

You can acquire just about any medication/chemical substance if you have the requisite amount of Money and Balls.

George Santayana was correct in his observations. And it caused him no pain, no real gain, nor consequences.

Galileo was also correct, but he paid stiff consequences.

Two different spheres of influence with unequal outcomes. God works in mysterious ways.
