Joe Strummer on Springsteen

BRUCE IS GREAT… IF YOU DONT AGREE WITH THAT YOU’RE A PRETENTIOUS MARTIAN FROM VENUS. BRUCE LOOKS GREAT… LIKE HE’S ABOUT TO CRAWL UNDERNEATH THE CHORDS WITH A SPANNER & SOCK THE STARTER MOTOR ONE TIME SO THAT A ENGINE STARTS UP – HUMMING & READY TO TAKE US ON A GOLDEN RIDE WAY OUT SOMEWHERE IN THE YONDER… BRUCE IS GREAT… BECAUSE HE’LL NEVER LAY DOWN & BE CONQUERED BY HIS PROBLEMS HE’S ALLWAYS READY TO BUST OUT the SHACK & HIT THE TRACK… HIS MUSIC IS GREAT ON A DARK & RAINY MORNING IN ENGLAND, JUST WHEN YOU NEED SOME SPIRIT & SOME PROOF THAT THE BIG WIDE WORLD EXISTS, THE D.J. PUTS ON “RACING IN THE STREETS” & LIFE SEEMS WORTH LIVING AGAIN… LIFE SEEMS TO BE IN CINEMASCOPE AGAIN. BRUCE IS NOT ON AN EGO TRIP… BRUCE IS ACTUALLY INTO THE MUSIC… WE NEED PEOPLE LIKE THIS… A LOT OF RECORDS TODAY ARE MADE BY PEOPLE JUST TO FEED THEIR FAME. BRUCE IS GREAT… THERE AINT NO WHINGING WHINING OR COMPLAINING.. THERE’S ONLY GREAT MUSIC, LYRICS & AN OCEAN OF TALENT. ME? I LOVE SPRINGSTEEN!!!

They didn't have to hear us that way unless they wanted to open the window, which they did when we crossed the Mackinac Bridge. I tried to scare my little sister telling her the wind would blow us off into Lake Michigan or Lake Huron and we are all going to die. Grandpa met us from St. Louis. Must have 1988 or 1989. We stayed about a week and I remember fishing (got bored), played cards, cooking out or campfires and getting excited about a girl even though I was probably only 6 or 7 years old.
Powers Lake which is in the general Lake Geneva area not too far from Illinois border. I went to college in Sheboygan though and that is where I was supposed to go this weekend before all of this virus crap. No muskies in Powers Lake though, Memorial Day weekend was all about Northern Pike.

Actually supposed to go to Mackinac this summer too but unsure if that will happen either and my European trip has already been cancelled. This was gonna be a big travel summer for me but so far I might not get out of the house?

Well I can’t match that, but it has been a bit windy here.

Let’s consider some really dark lyrics from “Watching the detectives”
The detectives come to check if you belong to the parents
Who are ready to hear the worst about their daughter's disappearance

My brother works as a supervisor for a cleaning company. One of their Jobs is at a school. One of the workers came to my brother and said “ I am a bit worried about this new guy, I am getting a bit of a Peado vibe off him.” . “ Oh well, at least he’ll enjoy his work”

Anyone else noticed that hard core rock stars inevitably love ballet. ?
05-23-2020 , 10:06 AM
Not that is possible not to love ballet

Nice work on British novelists. I should reread To the Lighthouse, a book I didn't get at all as an undergrad and then loved as a grad student.

Strange Memorial Day weekend, I think. Most likely won't see anyone or do much of anything. So it's a good time to remember.

Went to see my daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law last night on a beautiful 80 degree day in RI. Had one drink, ate dinner, talked, and just enjoyed being with my family (and we did stay the recommended distance away). It's a rare occasion these days. Have only seen them twice since the beginning of March, and except for a drive by graduation celebration a couple weeks ago, haven't seen friends or other family for nearly three months. (Zoom meetings don't count.)

As the weather warms on Memorial Day weekend, I think again James Agee:

On the rough wet grass of the back yard my father and mother have spread quilts. We all lie there, my mother, my father, my uncle, my aunt, and I too am lying there....They are not talking much, and the talk is quiet, of nothing in particular, of nothing at all. The stars are wide and alive, they seem each like a smile of great sweetness, and they seem very near. All my people are larger bodies than mine,...with voices gentle and meaningless like the voices of sleeping birds. One is an artist, he is living at home. One is a musician, she is living at home. One is my mother who is good to me. One is my father who is good to me. By some chance, here they are, all on this earth; and who shall ever tell the sorrow of being on this earth, lying, on quilts, on the grass, in a summer evening, among the sounds of the night. May God bless my people, my uncle, my aunt, my mother, my good father, oh, remember them kindly in their time of trouble; and in the hour of their taking away.

After a little I am taken in and put to bed. Sleep, soft smiling, draws me unto her: and those receive me, who quietly treat me, as one familiar and well-beloved in that home: but will not, oh, will not, not now, not ever; but will not ever tell me who I am.

I just wish for a time when I can go out for a drink and kiss my female friends. I have always told them “Proper snog please, none of this desiccated dry kissing nonsense “ I am almost certainly on the sex offenders register

Paul Morley’s description of Clem Burke’s drumming style as “Like
a suitcase falling down a flight of stairs “is the most accurate description of any musical activity ever

For any Sykardists out there, this is what proper music sounds like

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all. Remembering is important; and remembering what is important, is the most important of all.
05-23-2020 , 02:38 PM
and remember the social distance of 6 feet is the distance that most of the virus will travel most times and not the total safe distance. it is for social distancing to only help slow the spread of the virus and it has worked.

and in a room or confined space that distance might be the whole space especially if been there more than a short time.

most likely you wont get it only meeting a small few people. but if someone is contagious and you hang out 6 feet from them dont expect to be anywhere close to being safe from it.

Glad you got to spend time with your family, John.

From watching Clint Eastwood I have learned that women find extremely violent men with weary compassion for poor suffering humanity immensely attractive.
05-23-2020 , 05:49 PM
u finally found something absolutely correct.
05-23-2020 , 06:43 PM
“Finally” ,Jesus Christ Zee I have already had to explain the brilliance of ABBA, the pathetic singing of Bob Dylan, British bands of the late 70s , at some point in the future I will have to explain to Zeno that he has no idea about life, As for Dominic, spend half your life making video recordings of people taking all their clothing off and then realise that Kate Bush going “Hmmm” in This sensual world provides a greater sexual charge than anything you could even imagine. I have also spent a large part of my life helping to make beer.
05-23-2020 , 09:27 PM
tell us more about the beer that is what will inspire zeno. but zeno has a handle on life as you may find out.
05-23-2020 , 09:29 PM
Explaining the brilliance of ABBA is easy. It's a palindrome.
05-23-2020 , 09:30 PM
Zeno is much nicer to people than you would imagine.

On the other hand, I am exactly what you would expect. Lounge LC Thread: Spring To Life, Everybody!!

I never knew about this Citium fellow and always thought his name was some kind of Zappa reference.

Well I just composed a witty and clever post about the joys and frustrations of beer making. I have lost it. I am going to sit down and think about Clare Grogan for a bit, if that doesn’t work I may have to take the nuclear option and think about Steffi Graff
