Loss of independence is terrible.
I suppose (hopefully) the trends of Amazon delivery, ride share, and driverless cars will ameliorate that by the time I'm unable to drive. (knock on wood)

ameliorate, that word, reminded me of that amazing letter President Lincoln wrote that poor mother

I was welling up just now reading it. Absolutely astonishing, powerful use of language

Visited a couple weeks ago and reread Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Speech. Such powerful language.

I don't know. I doubt it will ever be possible to carve a 10 dimensional chess board, but then again, no one believed humans could fly 100 years ago.
07-03-2018 , 10:07 PM
they still cant fly. in case you havent ever looked up.
07-03-2018 , 10:13 PM
however the first flight in the us was in 1903 at kittyhawk. i believe there was one before in France but not recognized by this country.

Yes, my apologies. Old adages die hard...

... with a vengeance.
07-03-2018 , 10:30 PM
they do glide, with those nifty gliding suits with wings. although i think i read they have the highest% rate of deaths of any sport.
07-03-2018 , 10:39 PM
Ugh, those wing suits are terrifying.

It's also highly addicting. They break their legs, hands, necks, and are back to doing that in 6 months. It's apparently getting more dangerous because the old-timers are dying, more people who can't even sky dive are taking it on, and the audience is demanding much closer gliding to cliffs and everything else.

I won't even watch the videos because I truly don't want to support that stupidity. The more your learn about it, the less it makes sense. It's even more astonishing when you consider how rich all these people are.

I did run into my wonderful friend the other night. She sat up next to me, we chatted, and she said, "I'm going outside, wanna come?"

Idk, says my brain, but my legs didn't get the message.

We mostly of sat next to each other, sometimes about the distance of one beer glass (not me getting that close), barely speaking a word to each other. Some dude was hitting on her and sending plenty of eye-daggers my way, which is sigh... not the first time that happened.

People look and think whatever, I guess.

Dave,

Jesus! Go outside with the woman. It's not that complicated.

Or maybe it is.

I'm good at giving advice. I'm just really bad at acting on my own.

I did go outside. That was bad writing on my part.

It was a strange night. There is no place like a bar in LA.

Okay, well you went outside. Good.

I've never been to a bar in LA. Around LA, but not actually in LA.

John, I'm not sure if it's good or bad. It's a strange moment to be in. Of course, I brought the whole situation on myself, so can't really complain about the cause and effect, right?

I know the feeling, Dave. But you could try a little harder.

Of course, I turned down a kind invitation today from someone who was going to make a hundred miles round trip to pick me up. Some other guy would jump at the opportunity. Maybe any other guy.

I do try, but apparently my voice gets mixed up in the ether. Invites go with no response, conversations die in the first 5 words, and neither of us bother to pick up the phone to chat.

I think we're both comfortable as it is.

Happy 4th. Today is my day to get my mouth blasted apart by the dentist. Hopefully everyone else will be more jolly.

Conversation shouldn't die. Ask her more about herself. Lean in and show real interest. And then if it dies, well, you tried.

We've known each other for 6 months. I've been to her house a couple times, we've played music together, hung out, etc. It's just is what it is now. It isn't like we can't make further effort, but we don't.

I make an offer to hang out more, but it doesn't happen. That's how it was before, and how it will be in the future, I'm sure.
