Wait a second...

The spirited defense of gimmick accounts...

The professed dislike of someone, coming from someone who never hates anyone...

Ohmigod...it's clear now...

KATY IS ALEXSEM!!

I'm sooo confused. Is this Alexsem or Blarg you're talking about? None of this is making any sense to me. lol

Alexsem.

I was commenting on gimmick accounts in general, not necessarily Blarg's. Just don't get 'em.

Not wanting Katy to feel outnumbered, I do not miss AlexSem in the slightest.

Hey Dom, where did Hobby go? Is she still lurking?
lol...not saying I'd like to have him back, as he was a real pain in the ass...but he was at least interesting!

As far as Hobby goes...how would I know if she's lurking? I think you Loungers all thought there was something between me and her that wasn't there at all.

I may be wrong, but I don't figure Hobby to be the type to stay quiet for that long. If she were lurking, something would have toggled her switch by now, I think.

o you just blew my mind

I was searching for a good Alexsem quote and my search landed me in a really old thread! The Freedom to be Obese, remember it, Kudzu? It's from 2008. Alexsem and Blarg were killing in that thread. Thirddan, too. Hobby posted in it. I think everyone did (although Dominic adamantly denies starting it) When you're feeling nostalgic, check it out.

A line from one of Blarg's posts from that thread made me laugh,

Trust me, I have hated one or two posters in these forums. But I don't hate Alex. He just drove me ****ing crazy! I couldn't take it anymore

[QUOTE=kudzudemon;36888063]Wait a second...Blarg is posting under another name, in OOT?

I'm not really up on all the non-Lounge drama, but didn't he have issues with a lot of folks over there? Isn't that jackass who called him misogynist still hanging out there?

If memory serves me, the person who referred to Blarg as a misogynist was a lounge regular. Why that bothered him is beyond me.

Henry, Poker Reference, EntertainMe, HobbyHorse, and Gizmo led the misogynist charge against Blarg, along with several OOTers.

OOT hated Blarg and Blarg hated OOT.

I did do that back then, a little embarrassing to think back on. I was sorta learning how to talk to people on an internet forum. These days I'm always calm and rational though!

I probably don't pay close enough attention? I sorta remember the name Alexsem but have no recollection of any of his/her posts or any friction caused by same. Blarg? Oh yeah, I remember Blarg

I was always quite shocked at how Blarg could he rude to so many posters. I did notice a trend that they tended to be the women, as there used to be quite a few women in The Lounge. It never did occur to me.that it was simply because they may have been OOT regulars. For a while, The Lounge was very unwelcome to new posters but since I was more of a strata poster at the time, this place was more or less a curiosity. I actually liked it here mostly because it was calmer and more mature than the other community sub forums, so when I saw angst between poaters, it was unusually shocking. In general, The Lounge was much more lively back then too. Remember that thread about picking up women?

In general, I thought Blarg was upset at being burned in his personal life by someone and I suspect he was knocked about quite often. Here, he somewhat built a community that was quite a bit his own, and it would perhaps be upsetting to him that the very community he built dragged him through the mud.

I did like him, but he was quite verbose. When he was offering advice, it was always top-notch, and when he was succent, he was consistently funny and impactful.

This is why I didn't like him and don't miss him at all. He came across to me as the typical immature internet bully who ALWAYS had to have the last word and would never back down. I found him very stubborn and obstinate who always treated others poorly and lived to argue just for the sake of argument.

If you are comfortable with the mundane status quo, you would never appreciated Blarg.

If you are afraid of confrontation knocking at the door of your private world, you would never appreciate Blarg.

If you lack the ability to defend your personal, world view in the open, in any detail, you would never appreciate Blarg.

If you are willing to sharpen your sword against an unyielding adversary, Blarg was a hoot.

I usually found blarg tiresome. I don't care enough to argue about things online. I'll state my case read the other side, rebut it once, and then just let it go. Blarg could go on and on and on.
But when he was succinct and to the point, I usually found him right on the money and quite funny.
Except when it came to women. So sorry, but he had bug up his ass about women.

lol at kioshk blowups.
he had a couple good ones. really mean. I wouldn't want to be on his bad side in real life.
glad he didn't leave/get banned.

It was livelier back then, that's for sure...I think that the core group of regulars here all know one another so well by now, that we aren't really surprised with a viewpoint or opinion. It's like a group of friends who have grown so comfortable with one another that it's almost complacency. We could use some new blood to shake things up some!

Think you nailed it all better that I could.

But you missed one thing: he had to have been the fastest typist in the world or he didn't do much at all at work or in his spare time. Maybe he realized one day that The Lounge was an unhealthy addiction and left, and the drama was just a quickening of the inevitable. I recall he had over 70,000 posts, which if he wrote one word per post would mean he wrote one novel worth of words here. The most incredible part is that he seldom made any grammar or spelling mistakes despite whipping out 1,000 word posts in 30 minutes.

If I write a 1,000 word piece, it will take me about 3 days and it is bound to have 3 or 4 mistakes.

Yeah, I'm also glad kioshk is still around. I didn't much like kioshk when he first appeared. I remember we all jumped on his case one day, but turns out he is quite funny and intelligent.

Blarg brought some intellectual velocity to the Lounge that has been sorely missing since his departure.

Plus, he would comment on everything. Rare was a thread he didn't post an opinion in.

Whether he actually had an informed opinion or not didn't matter, and was where he frequently got into trouble. He liked to jump in on subjects he really hadn't thought through very well, or knew little about.

I always figured he took his status within the group very seriously, and felt like he had to post in everything to prove his worth. He probably just got tired of it.

Probably also got tired of M8Ludi slobbering all over him.

This is where we seem to disagree, Kudz. I liked that he would post an opinion in many threads. I would log in and get excited to read his posts. Guess I don't see what is wrong with posting in a lot of threads. It stimulates discussion. It was fun to read his perspective on different subjects. And he wasn't dry. He was very very funny and some of his posts were amazing.

Personally, I want a Lounge where people feel welcome and curious enough to jump in on a lot of subjects. Why not? That's what makes great threads take off. The reason the Lounge gets boring is because we don't have challenging opinionated people like Blarg. The Lounge really needs it. M8Ludi is right on this one. This forum could use some velocity

The problem was that he would burn up his energy trying to insist he was right, and it became tiresome. He refused to concede an opinion that he disagreed with. If one did not agree with him, he wouldn't even consider their point; he would just dig in. And he did so on everything, including subjects in which he was clearly in over his head.

I liked the guy, and he and I went round many times. But Blarg was not a debator, he was a an evangalist, preaching Blargism. And he brooked no heretics.

If you stood up to him, it could be fun, for awhile. But if it looked as though he was getting trumped, he turned into a nasty little verbal honey badger,.

Nailed it. FWIW I do regret at least the way in which I contributed to the misogynist discussion. I could have been more diplomatic in my criticism and better at pointing out the good that Blarg brought to the forum.

I was happy to let Blarg be Blarg 99% of the time.

I do wish that both he and Hobby were still around.
