daryn is a good cat, but he seems to have a strangely triggered temper. Sometimes he gets upset at strange things. I still like him a lot as a poster, though.

ElD was always nice to me. I can't recall one time when he was not nice to me (i do have a sketchy memory). however, he did make me pretty nervous though. funny how a person on a message board can make you nervous.

ElD was a good enough strat poster that he was pretty critical of Ed Miller's book when it first came out. IIRC he said something like "If they'd made the changes I suggested it would have been better, but as it is there are serious flaws in that book", something like that.

Does the Charlie.Dont.Surf account relate to the CharlieDontSurf account w/o the periods, that I believe was banned for some reason?

edit: looking back over this I suppose there are lots of posters now who don't know who the hell Ed Miller even is

That book was huge when it came out.

Surprised to hear El D didn't like some parts of it. I used to read the strat forums like crazy back then and never saw that before.

Yes I have trouble with searching the archives but it's there. You remember it was the first new 2p2 book since the originals, it was a big deal and there were lots of threads on it.

He had been given a preview copy and was miffed that his recommended changes weren't applied.

Daryn recently posted in SMP about going to grad school, he thought about this five (?) years ago and posted about it in OT:

Anyway, many of us gave Daryn some sage advice back then, he shrugged it off. He seems aimless. Instead of taking huge amounts of drugs and dying in a whore house fire like he should, Daryn seems the type to slowing choke himself to death over many meaningless and aimless years doing essentially nothing. Sort of sad, in a way.

Someone else created a separate invite-only forum for 2+2'ers outside the forums for a while. I think it was up for maybe a year. Jeremy, I think. It was pretty good, but it was splitting many of the same members between two boards, and that was hard to sustain unless people made a permanent transfer, which probably few wanted to do.

That board was created by Wacki (who used to mod SMP but has now since disappeared) with help by Jeremy (Censored) I think. I participated in that board and enjoyed it. Some of the strat forums on that site were actually excellent. It was populated mainly by discontented posters from 2+2 but you are correct that it did not, and probably could not, sustain itself.

And as an added general comment, I actually miss El Diablo - for all the right reasons, not the wrong ones. Don't misinterpret this; I'm not into hero worship, which is for people with infantile minds, but El Diablo did liven up the forums and make good contributions, and I doubt he took the forums as seriously as some think he did. That aside, Blarg's analysis above is very good and fairly spot on.

It's weird reading my old opinions. Since then I've cooled on The Lounge some and grown to appreciate OOT more.

And I really do miss reading Blarg's shorter posts. He was often very funny when he wasn't spouting walls of text. Total original.

I do not remember ever thinking AlexSem was actually Hobby. He was his own special little douchbag self. I do not miss him at all.

Loved Hobby and frankly really miss having her here. Miss Blarg as well.
