Dave, I think you're confusing the Internet with Western Europe. In the latter, perhaps. But in the former, if we're talking quintessential types, I'm going with angry basement-dweller turbo-posting GIFs about how little he cares.

I do remember Toothy saying that him and Blarg were on the same writing forum, so I'll bet that's it.

I tend to restrict my internet world to places that do not look and act like 4Chan or Reddit, so I mostly see the bleeding-heart liberal corner of the US internet system.

Hey, what's wrong with reddit? I'm reading Matt Taibbi's AMA right now and it's pretty pretty good.

John Cole likes to put the Lounge on cruise control and then take a long nap!

Horse has been wreaking havoc around these parts for weeks now. Yes, and reeking too.

I had been a vacation for a couple weeks. Came home and got sick. And then work has been slightly insane since then. Just finished answering emails from today.

So, John may have to actually do some modding for a change.

Okay, so who's Hobby now? Make my modding much easier. Please.

I shouldn't have, lol. I skimmed those posts and didn't revisit the thread. It wasn't that exciting anyway.

Reddit can be pretty good—especially if you lurk it and curate your list of subscribed subreddits well. Lots about it peeves me, though.

Reddit is like nvg without the filters. The people start discussing the articles when they clearly didn't read it, or if they did, they nitpick on crap that wasn't even on it. It's also the upvote / downvote system that screws it up. They shouldn't have downvoting available because what happens is that maybe 3 or 4 people downvote, then the 100 that do like the article won't speak up.

I'm saying this as someone that has submitted my articles to Reddit: it is the largest collective monkey-see-monkey-do half-literate dimwits I've ever encountered. Seriously a mass of LC drivel if I've ever read one.

Many of the smaller subreddits have tight moderation and high-quality discussion and aren't infected by an NVG-like ethos. Past a certain population size, anything that has a low (or nonexistent) barrier to entry (and retention) becomes a case study in Sturgeon's Law: 90% of everything is crap. Reddit's no exception. There's plenty of good subreddits in the 10%, though.

But I agree that the voting system is a bushel of AIDS. The impersonality is bad too—it's the main reason I don't contribute. It's hard to put any effort into posting if I don't feel I'm even communicating with real people.

It's again weird to read my old opinions in this thread, many of which I've completely changed in the time since.

And it would be great if Blarg came back. That old grouchy rascal. I'd give him a big bearhug right now if I could.

Note this started in the supersecret mod forum, and I was laughing my head off at the silly overreaction, and asked it to be made public so everyone could have a laugh

post #28 by Daryn directed towards a perfectly reasonable comment by another mod was particularly insightful

Also, post #53 by Mat Sklansky is informative about the origin of the Lounge, so brings us back on topic (seriously)

Yeah, I was rereading this thread and digging it, and got totally sidetracked into this one - it's hilarious.

Nice bump. I always figured it was something like that but was always just an assumption on my part.

Also my joke about Horse and Toothy was rude and possibly sexist. Belated apology for that.

It used to make me furious when Blarg would start running down John Updike.

At least he could get a conversation going. Something interesting anyway. Otherwise it's all very boring to me.

Hi Katy. It seems like a lot of the old regulars don't post much here these days. Reading this entire thread yesterday was quite a trip down memory land. That kudzu is something else! One of the most unique posting styles in 2p2 history.

Hi Kioshk,

Yes, Kudz has an interesting style of writing. Like a lot of 2+2 posters, he's very smart and can really make his case. Could get a tad pedantic at times but then who of us doesn't.

I would post a lot more if people would just start talking about topics I'm interested in
