Instead, I'm thinking about my dad. He introduced me to the Mills Brothers, and there's a moment in the film when DiCaprio's character discourses on the song "Till Then." And a little later in the film you catch snippets of "Across the Alley From the Alamo" and "I'll Be Around." Even though I haven't listened to these songs in at least 50 years, I remember all the lyrics.

Alone on Christmas Eve, I'm thinking of my dad and all I learned from him. It's a good feeling.

Merry Christmas, John. You're an important part of my life, so you're not alone. Not that I think you mind being alone today...just letting you know.

+1. Merry Christmas, John. I often think of you as the adult who, out of the goodness of his heart, volunteered to chaperone this field trip known as The Lounge.

Krampus, Michael Dougherty, 2015

Now THIS is a Christmas movie I want to watch every year!

Adama Scott, Toni Collete, David Koechner, and Allison Tolman are having Christmas as a family in Scott's house, and they could all use a little Christmas cheer.

Instead, Krampus comes to eat them, with walking, talking elves and toys that turn into monsters - all the better to swallow you with!

What a fantastic movie. Not sure why I haven't seen it until now or why it's not a modern Christmas classic yet.

Krampus is a great movie, it's just a matter of time before it is considered a classic.

the kids wont have any nightmares after that huh?

Recommend not watching until 35, maybe 40 years old.

SIL was nice enough to get me a crock pot for Christmas. Old one was functional, just one leg was a little wobbly.

So when I got home, went into the crawl space to retrieve its box for donation to the ARC (think Goodwill). While in there, found a shocking amount of crap that I'd apparently thrown back there at some point.

Of course, most of it was boxes for things I no longer own, and haven't for many, many years. Old CRT-type monitor and TV boxes, desktop computers (e.g., found CD to install Win 95 ).

Anyway, I'd guess I cleared out about 100 boxes I don't need. The stuff was out of sight and thus out of mind, but still sort of decluttering. Less useless crap around the house, even if it wasn't in the way to begin with.

Two pickup trucks full of carboard to the recycling center. Now I don't have to go in the crawl space ever again, either, so that's nice.

Now I need to figure out how to find someone who's interested in the random crap people have given me over the years. Mostly Packers/sports memorabilia. Probably has some small value, I don't know.

Today is an anniversary for me of sorts. 46 years ago today I entered the US Navy. I always remember this day as it sort of started my adult life. Deciding to join was the real first life altering decision of my life. At the time the economy was in the absolute toilet and as a fresh college graduate opportunities were sparse. I liked the idea of traveling the world and seeing stuff but my real goal was the old GI bill which had tremendous educational benefits. This was Decemeber of 1975 and on Jan 1 1976 the old GI bill would change to something less desrirable. So I had to get in before the end of the year for my grand plan to take shape.

I'd say it worked well for me. I was able to use that GI bill (and the Naval Reserves) to put myself through graduate school. I call this day Navy day and it was the first one one of my best adult decisions.

Mr baseball, that makes you more of a real man than at least 90% of two plus two. Probably higher. You don’t want to know my opinion in full about guys from the navy but it’s overwhelmingly positive.
