On a side note, does anyone know a good cable internet provider in the Westside? Well, good being all relative, I'm fed up with Time Warner so I'm exploring other options. Verizon Fios perhaps?

I was hoping you'd tell me

The weekend is a completely open book outside of winding up at Dodger Stadium Sunday evening and heading back to SD from there.

suggestions from places other than 2p2 for places to stay/eat/walk around have been old town pasedena or santa monica/3rd st promenade

FIOS is good if available

Check out Downtown. Lots of good restaurants, bars and hotels. No far from Dodger Stadium. The LA Live complex is very easy for out of towners and plenty of stuff there.

Man why would you ever direct anyone to LA Live unless you actively didn't like them?

If you have an interest in outdoorsy I'd recommend for a morning/afternoon to go grab brunch on Abbot Kinney and check out all the hipsters and pretty people. Maybe see if you can eat at Gjelina and see some celebrities. Then walk around the road people watching and checking out shops and just enjoying the area. After you get bored of that its a short drive to Venice beach area where you can see the awesome beach muscle gym, do more people watching, hit up the beach, rent a bike and just see the sights, and pick up HIV from some discarded needles on the sand. (Only semi kidding). Then your evening is still free for other activities.

What the heck, I live like literally around the corner from Verizon and according to their website my building doesn't have FIOS, only their crap dsl. Charter looks like complete ass also. Any other possibilities I can't think of? No wonder time Warner is playing hardball, they know they're the only game in town.

so Santa Monica it is... best place to stay in the area saturday night while keeping it under $300?

area is subjective... would rather drive 15 minutes to the beach/promenade and stay somewhere nice than the sketchiest place by the shore that barely fits in my budget...

Heh I was going to recommend Viceroy but it's $800. Good luck finding anything nice for $300 at the last minute. Just look for boutique hotels around Venice, Palms, Culver City, Marina Del Rey.

yeah - going to stay in pasadena/old town now - staying at the Westin for under 2 bills

still got a couple gaps to fill

drive up from SD saturday morning

find a casual taco place for lunch on the way (digging in this thread led me to la estrella - the 940 S Lorena St location seems to be right off the 5, is this one ok?)

go to the getty center

drive to Pasadena/check-in

walk to Old Town

eat dinner (where?)

walk around Old Town

go back to the hotel

wake up

eat brunch/lunch

do something

go to Dodger Stadium

go home

biggest hole i'd say is something to do on Sunday between brunch in Pasadena and a 5:05 PM first pitch at Dodger Stadium - thanks again!

Get Dodger Dogs but only from a spot where you see them marked as grilled. This may only be like one location per level.

Griffith Park is a good idea of something between Pasadena and Dodger Stadium to do before the game that will leave you a short drive to the stadium. If you'd prefer not to be out walking around in the heat getting exhausted before the game, you could catch a matinee at the coolest theater in town that is also in that area -- the Vista Theatre. It was built in the 1920s with an Egyptian theme and has the most legroom you've ever seen. Matinees are only $6.50/ticket and Elysium is playing there now. Rather than brunch in Pasadena, I think you should go to the best breakfast spot in L.A. -- The Griddle Cafe.

Are Melisse and Providence the best restaurants in LA?

Had Melisse, loved it, need to get to Providence next. Also went to Craft last week, and it was very good, although their vegetable accompaniments were actually better than their meats, which is both a good and a bad thing.

On the low-scale end, I posted in the fast food thread about Burger City Grill, which is excellent. Not a Father's Office or Umami type of deal, but better than Five Guys and more like what a completely standard American burger joint should be.

Have also been looking at sushi rankings & reviews, since I haven't made it out to Sushi Park yet. Can anyone say how it compares to Go's Mart, or Mori when Mori was still there (both of which are better than Zo imo)?

Also, does anyone know the list of places in LA that serve true A5 Wagyu? The Inaba Steakhouse in Torrance/PV is great, at reasonable prices for A5, and Go's Mart serves a seared A5 nigiri (Holy Cow!) that is exceptional. Any others?

anywhere from $1500-$2500 I'd say. the areas can vary greatly even for 1br places.

thanks, I see some potential places on Bluffside with reasonably prices, living next to the Ralphs and the metro would be nice

Hey All,
Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. My girlfriend and I are moving to LA at the end of July. She is starting graduate school at UCLA, I will be grinding bike/commerce/ etc.

She will have a fixed busy schedule whereas I will have more free time. We need to find a place to live that allows her to get to UCLA quickly. I have heard good things about Culver City, Santa Monica, Southpark, Mar Vista. Somewhere near Ucla shuttle access would be great tho we both will have cars.

Any advice/recs/leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
