If you're hungover, there's not really a better place to go than the Griddle.

The Natural History Museum at one time had bands and drinks on certain nights. I never went and I haven't heard about it recently. The only thing I found on their website was "First Fridays" which may or may not be it. Not sure. Sounds fun regardless though.

First Fridays

Once a month, the entire Natural History Museum stays open until 10 pm and features live music, exciting scientific discussion, and behind-the-scenes curatorial tours. Since its inception in 2004, First Fridays has been has been an immersive program designed for audiences of all ages, bringing together a dynamic discussion with scientists on the cutting edge of their fields and musical performances by fresh and innovative artists. In recent years the program has been hailed as Los Angeles’ “Best Intellectual Event in Disguise” (L.A. Downtown News, 2008) and “Best Museum Party Night” (Los Angeles magazine, 2009). First Fridays welcomes its audience back to the Museum they loved as kids, putting a new and exciting spin on an old favorite.

Is Griddle the one next door to a CVS (and I believe you can park in that CVS lot)? If so, a friend of mine randomly got food poisoning there, which has colored my view of the place. What's good there?

+3 on Bazaar: probably is viewed as over-hyped by now due to all the attention it's gotten over the years - but imo it is not - it's really great and still one of the better meals in LA.

It's a Rite-Aid, but yeah that's the one.

My brief but torrid love affair with Pho is over, but I have no regrets, for the love of Asian soup that was stoked has sent me into the arms of my lifemate: Orochon Ramen. Pick your broth, pick your heat level, add some toppings/extras, and voila: deliciousness.

Ramen is the ****. Someday I plan to open up my late-night ramen for drunks where you buy a ticket out of a machine like in Japan.

I love Pho but Ramen is probably one of my top five all time foods. I haven't been to Orochan yet but I've been to Daikokuya and it's amazing. Highly recommend. Also really want to try Momofuku in NYC. I went to college with the guy who started it, Dave Chang.

This. I really wish there was one of these near me. I would go to it constantly. Reminds me of the noodle bar scene from Blade Runner.

Anytime we bring up ramen I have to plug Santouka in the Mitsuwa Market:

It's worth a trip to the Westside - Spicy Miso with Extra Pork is where it's at

We had the liquid nitrogen capirinha which was quite delicious but not as good as the sangria

Looking for a sushi recommendation in the Santa Monica / West L.A. area that isn't overly fancy. I know about and love places like Sushi Roku, but I need a lower-key place that still has a nice atmosphere. It seems all the sushi places I go to are either hole-in-the-wall strip-mall joints (that are still very tasty) or really nice fine dining sushi. Anyone know of a good middle-ground spot in that area (good for a date, etc.)?

Joker - I can't speak to the other locations, only been to the one downtown - but I think Sugarfish (Nozawa) is surprisingly solid - and they have reasonably priced set courses. The emphasis is on simple sushi preparations (keeping with Chef Nozawa's philosophy). The "Trust Me" omakase is the most popular, and it's $29.50

Quote:
TRUST ME MENU $29.50
Organic Edamame
Tuna Sashimi (Big Eye)
Albacore Sushi (2-pc)
Salmon Sushi (2-pc)
Yellowtail Sushi (2-pc)
Halibut Sushi (2-pc)
Toro Hand Roll
Blue Crab Hand Roll
Also, if you like Uni - I think it's very solid there - they told me they source it from Catalina, not San Diego - whatever that's about, it's some of the best, freshest tasting Uni I've had in LA. I usually order the Trust Me and some Uni a la carte.

Looks like they have a location in Brentwood.

I was in the Valley today and had a chance to eat Unami Burger on Ventura. But went with my old standby - the ahi sandwich at Mexicali instead - so good. Unami is the one that sucks right?

I texted LFS but apparently he's too busy representing the caveman in those HILARIOUS Brian Orakpo commercials to reply.

I actually like Umami a decent amount - I usually get whatever lamb or pork burger they have going on.

Ugh they don't take reservations, which is kind of gayballs. But whatever. Looking forward to it.

Does anyone here actually play poker? I wouldn't mind having a small ($100ish) poker game and some beers with my fellow 2p2ers.

This place is right by my house. Can be a wait as it's smallish but I think for midrange sushi its really reasonably priced for high quality fish.

Went to Figaro in Los Feliz last night, highly recommend for a date spot. It's a French restaurant w/a very cool lounge - great atmosphere with super-comfortable chairs & couches, and a pretty crazy amount of candles on each table. They also have outdoor seating which looked nice, although it was a little cool for that. Food was very good - had oysters and lobster risotto. Tried a mushroom gnocchi with black truffle sauce which was also excellent. Portions were ridiculous.

Followed it up with The Dresden Room, also on N. Vermont. Pretty laid back lounge that had live jazz.
