My Seiko has now arrived at my house in England so I will get it when my parents next visit me.
In the meantime I picked up a Bentime 008-9896A in a pawnshop for 39 euros (originally bought Dec 2016 for 60 euros - still has about a year left on the guarantee - I have the original box, guarantee card and receipt from the original shop - so at least it wasn't stolen).
It will undoubtedly be considered a horror-show by some of the regulars ITT - I'll put the image in a spoiler for you so you don't have to see it every time you come back to this page.
It's size in mm is 53x46x12. Weight 71 g which is described as "light" but seems relatively heavy on the wrist to someone like me who hasn't worn a watch in more than a quarter of a century.
When my Seiko comes I'm going to give the Bentime to my seven year old son. It's obv. a pretty ordinary watch for an adult to have but I think it's suitably outrageous for a seven year old to have as his watch to wear to school.
First week of experiences as a born-again watch-wearer: It took me a day to get out of the habit of looking at my mobile for the time but now I love having a watch and not having to pull out an electronic device when I'm talking to people. I'm nearly 40 years old now and a watch kind of has to be part of the look of a businessman my age.
Anyway, for anyone lurking this thread who has not worn a watch for a long time/ever and is hesitating - if you can't borrow one then I would recommend picking up a cheap watch of roughly the right size to see how it feels on your hand, if you like seeing the time there instead of just looking at your mobile - if you go the second hand route you can trade the cheap one back in when the nice one arrives without taking too much of a loss (assuming you don't have a seven year old to gift it to).
