That seems a little high.

Spoiler:
I think I'm around 2-3% based on some real quick math and guesswork.

Less than 1%

Wow at 20%. With seven watches I'd say sell value around 4 percent. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Very nice and 37mm suits that better than 40mm imo. If it had a center second hand the 40 would look better.

After reading the article I'm patiently waiting for a 34mm version for $5,500.

Talk to me about this "First Omega in Space" Speedmaster.

I've had my eye on a speedmaster reduced (now discontinued but widely available used for ~$1200) for awhile. Due to wrist size I just cannot wear a pro. I was in a boutique the other day and I tried this FOIS one on (~$3500) and really liked how hit fit and felt, but I was also really put off by the marketing. $3500 is also more than I would spend in an ideal world, but if I thought it would hold its value well I could probably be talked into it.

Hodinkee seems pretty positive about it overall.

I am not a fan of the subdial layout on the reduced.

In terms of value retention, I don't see the reduced ever going lower than 1000, and I don't see the FOIS ever going lower than 2500 in used market.

Still, I am of the opinion that it you get the watch you really want, you won't need to worry about the price retention.

I don't follow this stuff, but how do Omega's and their endless limited editions (of many thousands) hold in in resale? Particularly the speedy's and seamasters?

From what I've seen, they hold their value pretty well (just like any Speedy Pro or desirable Seamaster), but I wouldn't expect them to appreciate.

I'm in the market for a speedy myself, and from perusing the used market the automatic Speedmasters(like the reduced) tend not to keep their value as much as the handwound, which would make me guess the FOIS will do alright.

My watch collection is worth a hell of a lot more than my car, that's for sure.

Random question, what are some of the best visible / physical engineering elements on watches excluding any consideration for the movements I can get? I get very annoyed at lacking crispness on a dial or even brushing on the metal, things like that.

Couple examples of what I'm talking about, I absolutely love the Stowa Fliegar's case, blue'd hands, crown styling etc. but it would be better value to me as a quartz instead of auto (assuming the price would be significantly lower).

Another example, I've kept my addiction away from Rolex's for the moment but the machining on Rolex bracelets, the low tolerances are awesome to me.

So what are the best models that have these elements I can buy <$1k?

These are still pretty heavily movement-focused, and MSRP of $2,300 but I have definitely seen other models float around the 1k mark
