So I was given a Seiko watch around 5 years ago from my girlfriend at the time. Wore it <10 times, and has been sitting in the box ever since. I broke it out last week, and wanted to put a black rubber strap on it, instead of the ss bracelet. The jeweler I bring the watch to replaces the battery since it was dead, but tells me the watch is broken as it still won't run. I called an authorized Seiko dealer in NYC that does repairs, and he said not to bother even bringing it in, since I can just buy the same model new for ~$200. Apparently, Seiko doesn't make individual parts for that movement, so the whole thing would have to be replaced, costing $200. What's the play? Get a 2nd opinion? Is there somewhere I can sell it for parts?
Picked up a Steinhart Marine 38 last year. Absolutely love it. I'll have to post pictures sometime.
