Hoping you can offer some advice. My late grandma left me some money with the strict instruction(!) to spend it on something for myself. I am looking at a watch, and it will be my first purchase of anything over £100 ($150).
I am looking at quite classic pieces. I like white faces that aren't too busy, and <45mm as I have quite small wrists. From an initial review (that's taken me about 6 weeks, I'm in no rush) I am a fan of the IWC Portofino automatic and the Nomos-Glasshutte Zurich Datum. I tried Zenith's on but didn't like those.
If you have any experience with either or have more suggestions - please shout - any and all advice appreciated!
$5k is what I'm looking to spend, but I don't mind flicking in a bit more if necessary (say up to $7.5k).
I'm definitely looking for something professional/dressy. I'm not a fan of chunky diver/pilot watches etc.
As for the Zeniths, it was mainly the face being too busy (I tried on a 'power reserve' which had a few dials and a 'moonphase'. I was super set on a moonphase watch at the start of this, but once I started trying them on I completely changed my mind).
What I liked about the IWC/Nomos was how clean they were. They also have quite white faces (as opposed to a more ivory colour) which I liked.
Further browsing has led to a Tiffany CT60 3 hand - but I am guessing that probably comes at a quite a high premium vs. the movement given the brand?
Did they actually change anything or have they just observed that after 3 years the movements are still perfect? 10 year service is pretty legit, more interesting than the warranty (to me)
also, a million ****ing watches a year? Jesus Christ. pokerplease, you only own 1, you really need to step up your game, pretty sure the worldwide average is 1.4 if my math is right.

Haven't read article but there's a 0% chance the world wide average is 1.4.
Ya probably. If that's the case I would think 1.4 is low.
An average of 1.4 Rolex watches per person worldwide? My guess is 1.4 per person who owns a rolex. Watches in general per person is probably close to 3 to 3.5.
After wearing a Sea-Dweller for the last 20 months I bought a Garmin Fenix 3 three weeks ago. I never imagined I would ever replace my Sea-Dweller (it was initially bought as a once-in-a-lifetime-purchase), but the multi-sports watch feels great on the wrist, presents itself very professionally, and I don't have to think about which watch to use.
In addition; the watch communicates who I am much better than the Sea-Dweller (even tho most of the people I work with would like the Sea-Dweller much more, and it cost 15x more)
Naturally, I will use the Sea-Dweller on special occasions (weddings, etc), but the Fenix 3 watch is surprisingly good.
idk if this shows up but it's the new IWC annual calendar. Looks pretty damn spiffy, though the crown being perpetually pulled out irks me. More info and pics here
