I nearly opted for one of these but with the metal strap - I don't like the hands though and ended up going for my Sea-Dweller instead. I think the orange strap is pretty rancid FWIW. That said, **** your boss, if it is what you want, go for it.

Now that you have me looking at MR videos, Ulysses Nardin has some pretty goofy ones:

Must be an interesting crowd that buys the Erotic Hour Striker for 100k...

I'm pretty sure anyone who saw that orange omega would assume it was a typical $100 fashion watch.
You'd be surprised how many people appreciate a good timepiece and instantly recognize them for what they are... Further, it never ceases to impress how many people (usually upper income males) are actually 'into them' and know the various makes, models and mechanics. Step away from the Seikos and wear something more upmarket- you'll notice it happen

Yeah, but none of those people are going to think that poaster is too pretentious or uppity or whatever he was worried about because he's wearing a $2k omega.

BTW, I've been alternating between a Glycine (gasp, swiss!) and a g-shock lately. I don't think my orange monster has gotten out in the last month!

I love that Omega Seamaster. Yes the band is a bit over the top, but I still like it.

Thanks.

Anywhere where you can wear a $500 watch and not worry about it being stolen? People who are out there to mug people sure arn't going to be able to spot a platinum grand complication but they'll certainly see the yellow gold rolex..

There's also insurance.

The nicest watch I've run into in the wild is a Patek 5970 and the owner certainly did not have any security with him. I don't see what the big deal is, you get over it.. I remember when I first had a watch worth 2k and i'd stress about wearing it places.. Now I wear 10k+ pieces almost everywhere. Once I level up to 50-100k pieces I'm sure it'll be the same.

I've never owned an expensive watch, but I assume it's similar to the first time you go to a casino to play poker. You get all freaked out about having several K in cash on you, but after a while you get used to it, realize everyone isn't looking to mug you and get over it.

I mean you are still on high alert, but you aren't paranoid.

i really dont know much about quality watches so i dont really know what to get. how much do you have to spend to actually get a good watch? is 75 or 100 dollars gonna get me anything worth having?

i found these and i like the look of them, but are they actually any good?

For around $100, look at an Orient or one of the Chinese brands.
(Orient is a quality brand at a very low price)

Not a lot of difference bwteen them if you're going for a quartz, but you can find the Orient's a lot cheaper than list price.

If you want an auto, keep an eye here and they have a deal of the day that's usually around 50% off retail. They also sometimes have site-wide discount codes for 40-50% off (not cumulative with deal of day).

i never think of my watch. unless you wear something ubiquitous like a sub or something loud and tacky, no-one will have a clue what you're wearing and what it's worth unless it's someone with an interest in watches or fashion.

most people when they think of expensive watches think rolex and rolex only. if it's not rolex, omega, or tag no-one will even recognise the brand.

Atleast thats the way my uncle pronounces it and he is a watchmaker. Also whenever I'm in vegas I ask to see the tur-BEE-yons from various models and the sales people dont correct me (but this could also because they just roll with it since they may potentially be selling me an expansive piece). But usually if you say it wrong they make it a point to use it in a sentence correctly quickly after you use it wrong.

K, I think I've found a watch series I like.

Citizen Calibre 2100 Titanium Chronograph Mens Watch

I like the look, and I know the watch is big, which kinda fits my style. Anyone have anything to say about the brand?

Also, anyone want to PM me some watch sites that you guys trust? I don't want to buy a watch from a random place online that I cannot trust.

Yes its not "own".

And the N at the end is not pronounced. Its not an O sound either.

can anyone with the iwc portugese show a pic of it on wrist?

right now i mainly wear this because i've been doing timed workouts at the gym and kind of like the anti ballerness of it

thinking about changing up my other watch (tho may just stick with the digital)

thinking of doing either sell a, sell a + buy b, sell a + buy b/c, buy c, or do nothing

(a) Oris Artelier Complication (currently own)

(b) IWC Portugese -- love both of these but want to see it on a wrist

(c) franck muller crazy hours -- doesn't seem like a good main watch but a very cool 2nd one (hours are out of order, hour hand moves around to correct # each hour)

The IWC Portugese has been discussed so much in these threads but I really don't think I would rather have any other watch that is close to its price range. I can still remember the first time I saw one before I had even ever heard of it.

Ditto, I am very into watches also. I have a nice bouleva that served has served me well for over 15 years. Last year, I decided to treat myself to a Tag, it was one of the cheaper ones at $800- $900 I forgot which. It was important to me that it was absolutely waterproof and I was assured that it was. (this is because I cannot remember anything, there is no way this watch is not going in the shower.)

Anyway, come December I was at Mandalay bay and decided to go in the lazy river. This was an annoyance because every square inch of Mandalay Beach or whatever, was covered by some turd twenty something douche with from Cali, you know the guys with the hat on sideways and tube socks pulled up, like fitty, anyways alot of stuff ****es me off but these ubiquitous tools are near the top of the list.

So there is no where to hide my watch. Into the lazy river, where I floated around a few times until getting kicked in the head by aforementioned drunk teens from Cali became untenable, dont these guys know Im powerfull like a gorilla and could squash them with one blow. Anyways, I refrain from knocking anyone out and get the fak out of the water before someone gets their Ed Hardy swimtrunks stuffed up their azz. So my goddam watch wasnt waterproof at all it seems. Tried to return it and they said no refund well fix it for $200. I said fu its supposed to be waterproof they accused me of not having the screw down tight, a falsity.

So now this watch sits there until I either let it go or take the time to sue (thats what I do, I sue dudes, but I digress), we're at an impass. Im at a consumer impass with the infants at this jewelry shop. They're just lucky I didnt knock out the head saleslady, the same infant who was drooling over me a month earlier when she got the sale cops a real tude when its time to honor the warranty, whatever, I know the way the world works but its still a depressing effort to not knock out just about everyone I see. This is why I rarely go out in the daytime. At least at a poker table you know people have hostile intentions.

Anyways, I like watches but committed to never buying any personal item that expensive again. There is no reason not to go to a pawn shop or buy a used item, let someone else take the risk of anal violation with a new product.

That is my story , I hope you enjoyed it.

Poast more IMO but don't buy watches at pawn shops imo, you can find used tags all over the place on teh intarwebs and get better deals from more reputable people.
