I meant that I would swap all three of them together.

However, a simple RO in SS with no complications wont be much more than a Daytona in platinum (as you note in your edit).

Does this really translate like this? I know with cars you can't even begin to compare Euro prices to US prices by using a currency converter, way too many forces at work.

Reason I ask is because last I checked a platinum DDII was 48-50 MSRP. That is an ENORMOUS ****ING PREMIUM to get a plat Daytona. ...like a solid gold GMTii.

edit: Looks like platinum Rolexes have gone up 20%. jesus

GBP50K????

You could get either of the PP or Breguet world timers for that. A few perpetual calendars in that range also.

Honestly, who would spend that on a Rolex?

I have always thought that chronos are a waste and just make a dial look cluttered. The grand complication though is lustable though ;-)

kpowers, it does sometimes translate like that.. i'd bet the list is closer to 70k usd.. you have to keep prices somewhat in line with exchange rates, people in that income bracket travel a lot. cars have all sorts of regulatory and logistical reasons that keep people from buying from different countries, watches not so much..

profit.. lots of people.. to some people rolex is the end all of watch brands and they are entitled to their opinion..

Thanks. That really is a truly staggering price. Can't wait to see what the version with the diamond markers costs.

wow, Rolex charging near Datograph prices for that Daytona.

Incidentally on the subject of the RO, I love love love this one

http://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wat...T.OO.0944ST.01

white dial, no seconds hand. The idea of an ultra thin sports watch fascinates me and its probably a grail for me at this point.

but would probably opt for another brand if looking at another complication.

rolex prices are getting totally insane, I don't see how they can possibly keep pushing MSRP up this fast and maintain their "rolexes always hold their value" myth.

I can't fathom paying 10x the cost of a watch just for a change in materials. Isn't a SS Daytona something like $8K?

i'm glad they went back to two color bezel for gmt ii

i had been hoping for black and gray though

SS Daytona more like 12.5k.

Didn't realize they were that much more than a Sub. Good to know.

have you guys heard of A. Lange & Sohn ?

I just tried this baby on today:

it's ****ing sexy. Looks way better on your wrist than in photo or from afar. One of those watches where the more you look at it, the more you're captivated by it for some reason. It's now on my wishlist

this one is also looking pretty sexy, didn't see it in the store though.

http://www.alange-soehne.com/timepie...r/introduction here's the site incase anyone's interested

I tried this Patek Philippe Calatrava today:

http://www.patek.com/contents/default/en/5196P_001.html

pretty sexy. Beautiful slim watch. Found this one to be more intriguing at first glance but the A. Lange & Sohn is just far more interesting.

I like the new two-tone GMTII. I'd probably snap pick up a new pepsi-bezel one, but I am liking the blue and black too.

The commodity price probably ****s with the Pt Rolex value a lot. Even though I know they heavily mark up over what can be explained by just commodity price.

Of course, the mentioned-earlier-on-this-page Datograph is a grail for many, including me. If you're seriously considering one, it's definitely worth checking them all out. Beautiful, of course.

supposedly the reason there isn't a pepsi GMT IIc is that the red ceramic is significantly more brittle than the other colors.

"rolexes hold their value" only applies to certain models.. SS daytona and sub being the obvious ones... i believe SS daytona MSRP is 11kish and are still selling OVER retail on the grey market in BNIB condition.. pre-owned pieces are trading at current MSRP or just below.

when i was offered mine the resale value sealed the deal since i could dump it pre-owned and get my money back if i didn't like/want it.. MSRP goes up every year too which is nice.

if the platinum daytona is indeed over 1lb, i'm going to assume ~1lb of platinum in the case/bracelet.. that's almost 23k in raw platinum before any sort of processing..

but yes, it's into datograph territory which would be my choice as well.

Syous, that Lange you didn't see (2nd pic) is nicely into the six figures.. but as downtown said, check them all out. if you have an opportunity to see a datograph in the flesh, try it on, you might be tempted to put it on with the back facing out..

What do you call that front style? I actually don't really care for it that much (although I do like that that the information is nice and clear). Same reason why I don't like Breitlings...but that's a sexy back

Right, I was talking more about the myth among the population that rolexes always hold their value.

Daytona is still riding the wave of the recent re-"release" (if you can call it that) and the extremely limited supply.

I mean the GV milgauss was in this same position of being flipped for more than retail a couple of years ago, prices have plummeted since then
Let's Talk Watches Quote

not sure if you can call the daytona thing a wave.. the last release of the SS was over 10 years ago.. rolex knows what they are doing, the supply of those will always be quite limited..

there's really no other watch they keep that limited though i hear the latest iteration green sub is still hard to come by. none the less i found one in the display case at tourneau LV last year. when i told my rolex dealer about that sighting he scolded me for not snap buying it.

as for the GV milgauss.. i mean the watch is ugly, what did you expect?

you'll also see this trend on some AP ROO limited editions (this stuff turned me off the brand completely).. they'll sell over retail soon after release and drop off as the hype dies out (and 50 other LEs come out)

That may be the sexiest back of a watch I've ever seen.

ya, that's the up/down version of it.. i guess you'd call it a 2 register chrono with a big date.. it's quite busy but the back is what sells it..

interesting fact, a lange platinum deployment buckle (just the buckle) sells for 4 grand..
