picked up a new citizen

Just had my Movado returned after they replaced the band due to the finish wearing off. Jewelry store was unable to remove a link and size it for me and now it's on it's way back to Movado. Very displeased with the hassle of it since I got it.

slightly pricy at $14,000 but looks pretty nice

On another topic, a long time back, we did a survey in this thread where each person stated a dream watch collection composed of a $500, a $5000, and a $50,000 watch. At the time, I picked the Dufour Simplicity but those probably go for more than $50,000 assuming they even enter the market.

These days I would probably go for something like this in that price bracket

when i saw it tbh i expected a gold rotor like on the royal oak, esp considering the gold model is priced at 24k- thats just me tho no expert on comparative value at this level! Just think it would`ve been a nice touch on the gold model- still much better than some of their divers tho!

Checked it out. Looks a little bit to thin for my taste and not modern?

dress watches are supposed to be thin to fit under your shirt cuff and classic in styling.

Onitsuka recommended the Visodate over the other Tissot you were looking at because the Visodate is mechanical while the other Tissot is quartz and we tend to have a bias towards mechanical timepieces in this thread.

It would really help if you refined your criteria as "classic yet modern" is not very descriptive.

give approximate dial size, mechanical or quartz or don't care, thickness as you mentioned it as being important to you, actual dollar amount budget as opposed to around the price of this watch +-100 so as to save us the trouble of having to find that exact model, look up the grey market and retail price and figure out how much your budget is.

My usual recommendations for more formal watches in your price range though is

Tissot Visodate
Tissot Le Locle
Seiko SARB series
Hamilton Viewmatic
Mido Baroncelli
Prometheus Signatura

i think pretty much all of the above recommendations will be classified as 'not modern' :P

Yeah, but they're all classic dress watches. I don't think "classic, yet modern" exists.

Maybe some sort of Bauhaus piece? Junghans Max Bill, Stowa Antea, etc.

AP is so sexy right now.

Found this list which might help the classic but modern search:

depends on what limits you're playing..

tourneau in the forum shops is prob the biggest with the widest variety of watches

if you're looking to spend in the 5 figure ballpark consider the following

tesorini (bellagio), wynn & company and the rolex boutique (wynn) and there's a few nice shops in the palazzo with some good selection..

Thx for the reply. Hmm, watches from the list exactly aren't my style I suppose. Some of the examples for my definition of "classic yet modern" found few pages back in this thread:
Sinn 6100
Longines column
JLC Master Chronograph
Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph - Wempe

I like all of them but don't want to spend that much on the watch (for now ). I think Tissot Couterier is of similar styling, that's why I thought it's nice, dunno.

so my preferences:
dial size: around 41mm
budget: around 500usd
quartz or mechanical: don't care

BTW. Do you remember link to the website where I could search through most popular watch forums market sections?

seems like you want a chronograph. I think in the 500usd budget you will have to go quartz unless if you buy used.

Even used $500 is really limiting for mechanical chronographs, unless you're going to look at vintage seiko 6139s or similar.

can get 7750 based hamiltons for $500 but will have to be very patient

can get russian mech chronos for around $250 but they will be handwound chronos.

Chinese mech chronos for around $400 but also handwound.

Quartz then . Do you guys have any suggestions?
btw. There is a mechanical version of Tissot Couterier but with something below 7750 inside IIRC.

Pretty watch. I like the hex crown. The black date wheel looks so much better than white.
