Sucks most ladies Cartier up to the 6k level are all quartz, same with ladies Reversos, after some brief searching.

quartz is fine. not all quartz movements are cheap and low quality.

tbh I don't think she cares that much, probably a strap and dial on the smaller side.

I'm pushing hard for her to get not get a quartz movement, though.

cox,

i know you have a preference for non quartz, but i think that probably she has a preference re: winding the watch all the time vs not. if she just wants a nice, aesthetically pleasing watch, pushing her to get a watch she's not going to enjoy because she has to wind it is =( (and yeah i get that there are still other options out there.)

i'm a +1 for ladies reverso, btw.

My girlfriend is really fond of Baume et Mercier. Might want to check out some of them.

I'm so autocentric at this point, it seems counter intuitive to spend a good chunk on a quartz watch, when thinking about it though as cit pointed out, if I was to give my girlfriend a watch she had to wind once in a while, she'd probably end up hating it.

Which leads my mind to the "well it makes perfect sense to get a good rep" argument, which is, at the least to say, dangerous ground, with women (HENRY ARE YOU THERE?) I dunno, glad I'm not at that point, gl cox.

+1 for the winding thing

i told my mom she was getting a rolex for her 60th, she told me she didn't want anything that would require winding.. she got an omega constellation..

i gave my gf a submariner to wear.. she didn't wear it for a few days and complained it stopped. i tried to show her how to set it and she promptly handed it back and strapped on her timex (it has indiglo!)

my recommendation is a patek twenty4. from what i can see they all have a few diamonds (at least) but they arn't all uber flashy.. she'll get over it, it's a patek.

what do you guys think about the citizen calibre 8700 ?

there are other colors too. would you say that this watch can be worn in all situations like all the way down to jeans and tshirt?

The dial is way too busy for me, but I'm a minimalist in that regard,

I'm somewhat of a techie and I've been thinking about getting one of the digital heavyweights: The Casio Pathfinder series.

The most obvious choice here would be their latest and most featured model, the PAW1500. I find it on amazon/ebay for around $250. However, it is quite bulky for my small wrists, so I'm also considering the slimmer version - PAW1300. It can be picked up for around the same price.

PAW1500-1V (resin/non-titanium):

PAW1300-1V (resin/non-titanium):

Measurements:

PAW1300 - 56.9mm X 47.4mm X 11.5mm / 97g
PAW1500 - 56.2mm X 50.6mm X 13.9mm /113g

Anyone here tried them both? I think the PAW1500 looks better, and combined with an extra 100 meters water resistance I'm definitely leaning towards it. The PAW1300 is slimmer but slightly wider.

Also, any thoughts on titanium vs resin? I can't decide on what looks better.

Another thing. I found a PAG80 at a local store for $100, which is quite cheap. It's missing atomic timekeeping, however, and I'm not loving the orange buttons:

i can understand being somewhat of a techie, and the atomic radio updating is pretty neat and all, but do is there any actual reason you care about the depth resistance or the tide chart or any of that stuff, or is it all just gadgetry? i think that would play a small part in this choice for some people.

No, you're right. In terms of PAW vs PAG the atomic timekeeping is pretty major, IMHO.

In terms of PAW1500 vs PAW1300 the extra features (depth resistance, tide chart, moon chart) are minor. The 1300 is slimmer but I've read comments on it not "feeling right" on the wrist. I haven't gotten the chance to try either of these watches IRL, so I was hoping somebody here had some input.

Not to be a downie, but who says, "I want to spend 5-12K on a watch."

Why start at the $5K mark? There's tons of awesome watches for way less...and how many women truly appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a high end watch?

Just sayin...

I agree.
You can get some really nice looking, well-made quartz watches for under $1k; and have a ton of selection for under $2k.

Well, I didn't realize so many woman's watches were quartz. But that aside, the price is not an issue at all.

Can you recommend some specific watches under $1k or around $2k?

Although I've never met a woman who really "knows" watches, many of my female friends see the Cartier tank as the ultimate watch.

I am the absolute worst person to ask about ladies' fashions, but you can browse Amazon and look for Hamilton, Gucci, and Raymond Weil under $1k and Omega or Tag Heuer under $2k.

This is actually the frustrating this for me with regard to women's watches. I can't imaging spending 5k for a quartz, but the smallness of them prohibits automatic movements.

You spend extra for diamonds and the look on her face.

[QUOTE=slickss;12301941]I'm somewhat of a techie and I've been thinking about getting one of the digital heavyweights: The Casio Pathfinder series.

Ok. I own a pathfinder, and I am a big fan. When I was living in Colorado and climbing mountains, the barometer and altimeter were awesome useful features. It has been seriously clunked around on many of the tallest peaks in the US, and never blinked an eye.

Recently I have started running/jogging and I brought my pathfinder out of storage for a cheap, light stopwatch. Again, it serves it's purpose perfectly. A new battery and boom, you're off. Indestructible.

Mine doesn't have the atomic/solar options (being at least ten years old), but it is a great watch that looks awesome and you will use the techie features more than you expect.

I have tried on the new ones, and they fit nicely on the wrist, considering their diameter.

Buy and enjoy and then post pictures to this thread.

* you can't imagine spending $5k for quartz but you can for an auto??? You do realize that the actual cost of the movement is a small portion of the total cost of the vast majority of watches discussed ITT, dont you?

* autos can easily fit in small ladies' cases. The seiko 4207 fits in a 25mm case, for example (and you can find pieces with it under $200).

* most women (or men for that matter) aren't going to be able to tell the difference between a $1k watch and a $10k watch.

This, I'll never understand spending like 7k one on some of the female watches I've seen that's for sure, but I guess I'm not as much as a enthusiast as others.
