OK and my second question, my caseback is engraved as the watch was given to me as an employment gift.. anyone have good success (what was cost?) of having that buffed out? I'd like to resell this watch, I never wear it.

Well, at least your date is changing. Often times, changing hte date between 9pm and 3am will cause the date to not change overnight at all. Pretty sure if you want it fixed, you're going to have to get it repaired by a watchsmith. Not going to be fixed by tinkering.

As to the caseback question, it might be cheaper to just replace the caseback.

turns out it's an elgin de luxe, most likely worth < $100. I'll take it to the local watch shop to see what it'll take to fix it, otherwise it's just a nice memento.

Its likely going to be more than $100 to repair it.

Just replacing the crystal alone will run you like $40 if you replace it with mineral and $90 if you go with sapphire and most watchsmiths don't service movements for less than $100.

Does anyone have any knowledge of Omega warranties? I've had a Seamaster Automatic for 18months from new and its now stopped and no matter how much winding or shaking etc I do I can't get it going again.

I cant really afford the $300 service if I don't have to so should I contact Omega directly? It seems way too soon to be just servicing, average is 4-5 years? So could it be a fault of some sort? I think the warranty is either 2 or 3 years so I'll be inside it either way.

I think you should contact the A/D you bought it at first. They should be your first line of customer service. If they cannot help, then go to Omega directly.

OMEGA International Warranty
1 Introduction
(Valid for U.S.A. only)
Your OMEGA® watch is warranted by OMEGA SA* FOR A
PERIOD OF TWENTY-FOUR (24) MONTHS, THIRTY-SIX (36) MONTHS
FOR WATCHES WITH A CO-AXIAL ESCAPEMENT, FROM THE DATE
OF PURCHASE under the terms and conditions of this warranty. The
international OMEGA warranty covers material and manufacturing
defects existing at the time of delivery of the purchased OMEGA
watch (“defects”). The warranty only comes into force if the
warranty certificate is dated, fully and correctly completed and
stamped by an official OMEGA** dealer (“valid warranty
certificate”).
During the warranty period and by presenting the valid warranty
certificate, you will have the right to have any defect repaired free
of charge. In the event that repairs are unable to restore the normal
conditions of use of your OMEGA watch, OMEGA SA guarantees
its replacement by an OMEGA watch of identical or similar characteristics.
The warranty for the replacement watch ends twentyfour
(24) months, thirty-six (36) months for watches with a co-axial
escapement, after the date of purchase of the replaced watch.
This manufacturer’s warranty does not cover:
– the life of the battery.
– normal wear and tear and ageing (for example scratched crystal;
alteration of the colour and/or material of non metallic straps and
chains, such as leather, textile, rubber).
– any damage on any part of the watch resulting from abnormal/
abusive use, lack of care, negligence, accidents (knocks, dents,
crushing, broken crystal, etc.), incorrect use of the watch and nonobservance
of the operating instructions provided by OMEGA SA.
– the OMEGA watch handled by non-authorized persons (for example
for battery replacement, service or repair) or which has been
altered in its original condition beyond OMEGA SA’s control.

I ended up buying the Tag link Calibre 6.

What do you guys think?

I'm a sucker for second hands with elaborate back ends on them, I hate the lume tube though.

I think the tritium is one of the big selling points of Ball. If I hated the look of tritium, I probably wouldn't get a Ball since its cheap to relume a watch but not so cheap to replace broken tritium.

Speaking of second hands with something on the back end, I am pretty enamored with the Christopher Ward Trident considering its price

I like how they look off the wrist.

On the wrist...not so much.

Not sure why. Every one I have tried on I take off almost instantly.

In any event, is this fixable by tinkering around with changing the date between some time gap or anything, or am I now facing a multi hundred dollar repair at the AD to have this nuisance fixed?

Thanks in advance for the replies...

If anyone cares, a watchmaker said this would cost 50-60 bucks to fix as long as no parts are broken. If any of you are in the same boat and don't want to pay the high cost of servicing at the manufacturer.
